Guests say

The Smithy is a charming, cosy cottage in a picturesque Derbyshire village, praised for its homely décor, spacious rooms, and beautiful views. Guests appreciate its excellent location for exploring the Peak District and nearby towns, as well as the secure outdoor space for dogs. The open fire and well-equipped kitchen add to the comfort, and the host is noted as helpful. Some minor maintenance and updating are suggested, and a few guests mention road noise and the absence of a washing machine. Overall, it offers a warm, inviting base for families and walkers alike.

Most guests found the cottage clean and comfortable, though a few mentioned the need for a deeper clean and removal of cobwebs. Cleanliness is generally good but could be improved with more attention to detail.

The location is highly praised for its beautiful village setting, stunning views, and proximity to walks, local pubs, and attractions in the Peak District. Guests found it ideal for exploring the area.

The cottage is frequently described as cosy, warm, and comfortable, with spacious bedrooms and a welcoming atmosphere. Some guests noted older mattresses and minor issues, but overall comfort is rated highly.

Facilities are generally good, with a well-equipped kitchen, open fire, and secure outdoor space. However, some guests noted the lack of a washing machine (despite being listed), minor kitchen equipment gaps, and some maintenance needs.

Guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as provided logs and coal for the fire, and a well-stocked kitchen. Please note that such gifts or supplies are not guaranteed for every stay.

A lovely comfy and cosy cottage but also quite spacious. About 20 minutes from local amenities and big supermarkets. Beautiful views from the cottage and around the village. We did feel it could do with some tlc/updating but still enjoyed our stay.

We stayed at The Smithy for 7 nights in a cold week at the end of January. The endless supply of coal and logs was wonderful and really appreciated as it made the cottage feel cosy and warm. The cottage is well equipped with all the things you could need. Good powerful shower, plenty of towels. Ample supply of reading books for raindays. Short walking distance to the two pubs. We ate several times at The Old Gate Inn and would certainly recommend it, especially the Sunday lunch. The only negatives are, the dvd player did work, it could do with a light on the driveway as it is very dark. It could do with a recycle bin and instructions in the kitchen. The biggest negative is the road noise. It starts at 5 am and there is a constant stream all day until around 6pm, we could hear it in the downstairs back bedroom. Overall and enjoyable stay.
