About this property

Winster 1.2 miles. Set in the heart of Wensley village in the Derbyshire Dales, is this charming detached cottage, White House. This heart-warming retreat is perfect for a group of 4 adults seeking a traditional getaway to an area steeped with natural beauty and a vast array of attractions to suit a group of all ages and tastes. Be welcomed into an open-plan kitchen/diner, wonderfully appointed to the rear and holding a range of appliances to fulfil all your culinary needs. A dining table also rests here and can seat up to four guests so you can enjoy a delicious meal together and toast to a wonderful holiday break with a refreshing glass of wine in hand.

Walk through to the sitting room which features a woodburning stove encased in a small inglenook fireplace to keep the room nice and toasty during those cooler winter months; cosy up on the plush sofas and spend a sociable evening together as a group. As the evening draws to a close, choose from two bedrooms, set up as a double and twin with a selection of furniture for storing your personal belongings. On this floor, you will also find a family bathroom with the choice of an elegant bath or shower over so you can prepare for your day in style.

To the rear is an enclosed garden with lawn and patio areas so you can step out and enjoy the fresh country air and watch the sunrise with a good book in hand. If you don't fancy cooking for the evening, head out to the local pub in the neighbouring village of Winster called The Miners Standard serving traditional pub food. This property is well-placed and is only a short drive into the bustling town of Matlock which is famous for its Victorian spa and holds a large selection of shops which make an excellent day for exploring. Pull on your walking boots and hop in the car for a scenic drive to the Peak District National Park for outstanding hikes with unrivalled landscapes.

To get involved with some watersporting activities, venture towards the Carsington Water, particularly excellent for fishing and sailing opportunities. Further afield is the larger parts of the Peak District National Park which are well-worth exploring, such as the Dovedale nature reserve and thriving market town of Ashbourne, Bakewell and Chatsworth. White House is the ideal holiday spot for parents and children over the age of 10.

Winster is a village in the Derbyshire Dales on the inner fringes of the Peak District National Park. Take advantage of your remote location and explore its stunning views via long walks or by cycling. The village itself has a convenience store and local pub for your immediate amenities, whilst the nearby town of Matlock provides a larger choice.

It’s the perfect base to enjoy all that Derbyshire has to offer. The only negatives for us were the double bed mattress - it was sooooo uncomfortable and lumpy, and the road noise - the cottage faces the road through the village and the sound of the lorries, cars and tractors from 4am was a problem so please consider this when booking.

The garden is lovely we sat outside a few times. The weather was fantastic. We visited Matlock, Matlock Bath, bakewell , Eyam the plague village, and chatsworth farm shop a must visit! We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay on arrival we had tea fresh coffee sugar and cheese biscuits and a bottle of cava. Thank you to Adrienne for all the information and for the chance of staying at this wonderful cottage. There’s no tv but we enjoyed not having one there’s lots of games books and magazines and plenty of places to visit Thank you mark and helenlouise

We loved everything about White House! Wonderful place to spend a holiday. The house, garden, and area were perfect for us as they were mid-way between family in Derby and Yorkshire: close to Haddon Hall, Chatsworth, Nine Ladies Stone Circle and loads of other beautiful places. The owners left a nice tray of coffee, tea, Cava and biscuits: a welcomed surprise. All was exactly as shown on the photos: no touch ups. Beautiful and peaceful. We hope White House is available on our next visit to England. ( Happy travelers from Boston, Massachusetts, USA)
