16 The Boathouse in Rye is highly praised for its immaculate cleanliness, excellent riverside location, and comfortable, well-equipped interiors. Guests appreciate the easy walk to Rye town centre, beautiful views of the river and wildlife, and the convenience of on-site parking. Thoughtful touches from the owner, such as clear instructions and occasional welcome gifts, are frequently mentioned. Minor suggestions include improvements to bathroom safety and occasional maintenance, but overall, guests consistently express a desire to return, highlighting the property as an ideal base for exploring Rye and the surrounding area.

Cleanliness is repeatedly highlighted, with numerous guests describing the apartment as spotless, immaculate, and very well maintained. Only one or two minor maintenance comments were noted, but these did not detract from the overwhelmingly positive feedback.

The location receives near-universal praise for its proximity to Rye town centre, scenic river views, and easy access to local attractions and walks. The only minor negative mentioned is a short potholed stretch of road leading to the property.

Guests consistently describe the apartment as comfortable, cosy, and warm, with quality bedding and towels. A few personal preferences regarding mattress firmness and sofa comfort were noted, but these were exceptions rather than the rule.

The apartment is described as very well equipped, with all necessary utensils and appliances. Some guests noted the removal of the DVD player and suggested minor additions like a non-slip bath mat or oven tray, but overall satisfaction with facilities is high.

Many guests mention thoughtful touches such as clear communication, helpful local information, and occasional welcome gifts like wine and beer. While these gifts are appreciated, it should be noted that they are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

A modern, one-bedroom first floor apartment with a Juliet balcony, overlooking the quay of the River Rother, in the Cinque Port of Rye. Stylishly decorated and furnished, offering a sleek alternative to the more traditional Sussex cottages, this 3* Gold Award apartment is cosy and comfortable, with lovely views over the boats that pass through the quay at high tide, and to open fields beyond. The apartment is centrally located, with the amenities of the town a short walk away. Rye offers a museum, swimming pool, windsurfing lake, dinghy sailing, independent shops, galleries and weekly markets. Fishing, cycle hire, horse riding, tennis and golf are also in the locality. Camber Sands, 5 miles away, offers a kitesurfing course and swimming, or visit Battle, 16 miles away, an historic town built upon the site where William the Conqueror defeated King Harold. A superb Rye cottage alternative for a relaxing break.

Rye is an ancient town Perched on a hill, overlooking the River Rother and Romney Marsh. It has enchanting cobbled streets, a medieval church and beautifully preserved historic houses from medieval, Tudor and Georgian times, giving the town a uniquely unhurried atmosphere. Rye has many ancient and interesting buildings that bear testimony to its eventful past, including The Ypres Tower, Landgate and the Town Wall. In early September, the town assumes a different atmosphere, as the Rye Arts Festival takes place. Here, you can experience the delights of Classical music, Jazz, Blues and Folk, Comedy, and Literary events bringing the best of the Arts to Rye. In recent years the town has played host to performers such as Humphrey Lyttleton, Susannah York, The Menuhin Grafin Walfisch trio, Eliza Carthy, Lady Antonia Fraser, Nina Conti and the London Bulgarian Choir. If that wasn't enough, Rye is also within easy access of other attractions, such as Camber Sands, the Rye harbour Nature Reserve and Winchelsea Village.

The property is in easy walking distance from the train station and the centre of Rye, which is a fascinating place to visit. We traveled there by train and it was easy to get around to see other places. The property is well equipped and very comfortable.

We could walk into Rye old town in a few minutes and Rye Harbour Nature Reserve was a short drive away. The apartment was very comfortable and we had lovely views of birds feeding in the river at low tide and a few boats going by at high tide. We would visit again.

We found the description of the accommodation to be accurate. Internally it was clean and well equipped. The wine and beer left in the kitchen area was a welcome touch! The living area was comfortable and the view across the River Brede with its tidal changes and birdlife provided entertaining viewing at all times of the day, from early morning to late evening. The Boathouse is in an ideal location for visits across the South coast. Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is a short drive away, while public transport allows access easily to Hastings, Bexhill, Winchelsea and many other places of interest. Rye itself is within easy walking distance with, in addition to its fascinating history a range of shops and eating places. Overall? An excellent choice for a break. The owner was easy to contact and extremely helpful in terms of providing local information.
