Guests say

The Old Thatch is a charming, characterful cottage with a spacious, well-equipped kitchen and a large, secure garden ideal for dogs. Guests praise its cosy atmosphere, comfortable beds, and convenient access to local shops and the coast. The property is well-suited for relaxing breaks and exploring the South Downs. While some mention minor cleanliness and maintenance issues, as well as the challenge of exiting onto a busy road, the overall experience is positive, with many guests appreciating the thoughtful touches and peaceful setting.

Most guests found the cottage clean and comfortable, though several noted issues such as dust, cobwebs, crumbs, and occasional dog hair. One review reported a significant cleanliness problem, but this was an outlier and resolved by the owner. Overall, cleanliness is generally good but could benefit from more consistent attention.

The cottage is praised for its proximity to the coast, South Downs, and local amenities. However, its position on a busy, blind bend makes access by car challenging for some guests, and a few noted suburban surroundings. Despite this, the location is convenient for exploring the area.

Guests consistently describe the cottage as cosy, homely, and comfortable, with good beds and a peaceful atmosphere. The spacious kitchen and lounge add to the comfort, though a few mention the need for a more powerful shower.

The property is well-equipped with modern appliances, a large kitchen, Smart TV, Wi-Fi, and a secure garden. Some guests noted minor maintenance issues, such as poor Wi-Fi in the kitchen and dated appliances, but overall facilities are highly rated.

Many guests appreciated welcome packs, festive decorations, and thoughtful touches such as board games and dog-friendly amenities. However, some noted that the welcome pack was more basic than expected or not as pictured. Please note that gifts or hampers are not guaranteed and may vary.

Our second visit to this lovely cottage within 6 weeks. It’s conveniently situated north of Hailsham and near to the South Downs with plenty of scenic and interesting places to visit, either by car or by the frequent bus services passing by It is very comfortable within the cottage and is well equipped with a very large garden.

Lovely holiday cottage, really convenient location and is well furnished. Has a drive for private off road parking, we struggled with our long estate to turn it so it faced ready to drive out as the entrance is on a busy corner so not suitable for reversing in ready, and certainly not for reversing out) but if you have a sensible sized car it would be fine! The playhouse is nice, just a space really with a few bits in there to rummage in, a foam connect 4 and some wooden blocks, and a freezer. Big garden out the back, lovely space. Inside is very spacious, cosy furniture and well equipped in the kitchen. Good quality stuff. There is a small upstairs office type space with a playstation 2 and some games, quite quirky. The small bedroom has a tiny WC behind one of the integrated double wardrobes, which is an amusing find, perfectly functional and tidy. Both bedrooms very comfy. Hairdryer in master bedroom. Lots of clothes storage space.I needed to run the vacuum round and emptied it twice, fur and grass everywhere. Bank hol so perhaps cleaner was behind schedule. Bedding fine as were amenities.
