There is a lot to like about Sandy Balls but there is still further to go before I would give it a higher rating. It’s the attention to details that let it down….On arrival the floor in our lodge had been cleaned but there were huge puddles on the floor still which meant our first job was to dry the floors. In my daughter’s bedroom there were sticky sweets on the floor that had been missed or not cleaned up. The bath overflow was not attached properly and when you sat in the bath it slid away from its hole, meaning both my wife and I sat in the bath with one foot holding the waste in place. Aubrey’s restaurant was good and bad. My wife and I ordered pouched eggs one day and both orders the eggs were hard boiled. How you can send this out from a kitchen is a concern and should have warned me of things to come. On my last day I ordered eggs royal, well this time they excelled the salmon was minimal and so tough it was inedible, the saving grace was there was so little of it. To cover this Salmon scarcity up the eggs were smothered in hollandaise sauce which is an insult to you as a customer. They had obviously run out of fresh ingredients, the right thing to do would have been to offer me an alternative dish not some sub-standard cover-up. I like most people rarely complain but I did raise my concerns and by the reaction I received it felt like this was not unusual, their response was stoic, lacked real pathos so I was left feeling cold

Absolutely loved the lodge... under the beds could have been hoovered but that didn't affect our feeling towards the accommodation. I only gave an 8 for furniture because even though I understand the need for cleanliness, I felt the sofas were like something in a clinic or hospital waiting room.

The beds were comfy although neither of the twin rooms were large enough to fit the travel cot provided. The kitchenette was very basic, didn’t have a frying pan or other kitchen basics but we made do. The entire lodge stank of stale cigarette smoke which was so bad on the first night I woke up struggling to breathe properly.
