Freshwater consists of Freshwater Village and Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight. Freshwater village has small shops, cafes, and the West Wight Sports Centre and Indoor Pool. Freshwater Bay and nearby Compton Bay are known for their high chalk cliffs, rolling downs, and lovely beaches. Freshwater Bay Golf Club, which overlooks the English Channel, offers a superb day out for golfers of all abilities, while the area is a haven for birdwatchers, cyclists, and walkers with many wonderful walks to be enjoyed not only on West Wight but across the entire Isle of Wight's varied island landscape. Afton Down and Tennyson Down are popular local walks. Dimbola Museum and Photographic Galleries are at Tennyson Down.
