Please note: There is a fountain and a moat in the grounds. There are steep and spiral stairs at the property.. Golden Hill Fort is situated within 50 acres of Golden Hill Country Park. Originally built in 1863 in a distinctive hexagonal shape, which is elevated 60 metres above the north west coast of the Isle of Wight. This spectacular Grade I listed building has now been beautifully converted into 18 luxury houses.
Internally, the property offers brick barrel vaulted ceilings with coloured LED mood lighting, solid oak floors with underfloor heating and high quality appliances. Externally, the communal rooftop gardens (approximately 5,500 square metres), offers stunning, panoramic 360 degree views across the Solent, English Channel and the countryside. These are the only landscaped rooftop gardens on a Grade I listed building in the country. The central courtyard is where the parking spaces are located and features a large water fountain.
West Wight is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is the ideal spot for catching a glimpse of the local wildlife, walking or just enjoying the beautiful countryside. From here take a visit to one of the island’s many attractions including Freshwater Bay, Alum Bay’s famous coloured cliffs or the Needles, one of Britain’s most famous landscapes.

Great place, disappointing that (like last August) the bathroom floors were very dirty and not just a week’s accumulation (I showed Phil a photo). Also, the left hand sash window above the sink is still stuck closed - a through draught is essential in this weather! The window sills in the sitting room were also dirty. There are issues with the frig door and the washing machine - Phil knows about them. He was helpful, but something needs to be done about the cleaners! My daughter spent the first half hour of the holiday cleaning her bathroom.

The accommodation had initial wow factor but was dirty, the glass stairways were marked and grimy, the kitchen units a gloss finish also needed to be cleaned properly. The insides of the units were dirty and contained a mismatch of crockery and utensils. The fridge door would not close properly ( this had been mentioned in previous reviews)The towels provided were of very poor quality as was the bed linen. The mattress’s were also thin and very uncomfortable. The outside seating, a rattan type suite was old and the cushions had lost any comfort meaning sitting outside was uncomfortable. Overall we were very disappointed in the property and felt it needed a complete deep clean and better quality furnishings. We mentioned these points to the caretaker Phil who blamed the owners. This could be an incredible property but in its present state is definitely not value for money and I would not recommend this..

Great accommodation and location, let down by a below average standard of cleanliness. Needs a deep clean. Communication with Phil was great, very helpful person, nice to be met on arrival and to have everything explained to us.
