Step inside and you’ll find yourself in a circular, open plan space that’s been designed with relaxation in mind. Wake to the first light of day filtering in through the window in the roof, and imagine lazy mornings cooking brunch in the kitchen area while your very own hot tub bubbles happily outside ready for that first dip of the day. And, when the sun’s shining, you can step out onto the grass and dine al fresco at the table so you can sit back and take in the scenery and the sounds of the great outdoors. When evening starts to close in and you retreat into the living space to unwind with a glass of something chilled, the stable door means you can leave the top half open and let the country views in. The kingsize bed makes a welcoming sight after a busy day enjoying country life on this rural resort.
Buttercup Barn Retreat sits in the Wootton countryside, tucked at the end of a long, gated driveway. Surrounded by countryside, the resort’s within a short drive from the centre of Ryde in one direction and the sailing port of Cowes in the other, and you’ll find some of the Wight’s most popular attractions nearby for those days when you feel like an adventure.

We have stayed at Buttercup Barn Retreat before; it’s a lovely tranquil spot. The yurt is very clean with everything you need, and the bed is very comfortable and cosy. The hot tub is fabulous. We stayed over Christmas and the yurt was warm despite only being heated by a single oil filled radiator. We watched a beautiful sunrise over the fields. The track leading to the retreat is very rutted and muddy with huge deep holes! It was difficult for my husband who has mobility issues as he found driving over all the bumps very painful, although we drove really slowly. We couldn’t connect to the Wi-Fi; the owner did kindly try to help, but apparently it’s quite hit and miss. I ran out of data on the second day. The tv was also a bit hit and miss. It couldn’t be turned off with the remote, so if you were watching in bed you had to get out to turn it off, and it was difficult to find channels. The kitchen tap was very loose and wobbly; I was afraid it would break!Having said all that, it’s a beautiful place and the owners are very friendly, even giving us a bottle of wine and biscuits when they couldn’t help with the Wi-Fi. That was really kind of them. We definitely hope to stay again in the future.
