One of the hot spots of Sandown Bay, Shanklin (1 mile) has everything you need for a fabulous family holiday. Stroll through the historic Old Village – home to thatched cottages, tea rooms and unique shops – and explore Shanklin Chine, a lush gorge which is beautifully illuminated in the evenings. Shanklin’s long, sandy beach is ideal for sunbathing and water sports, the Esplanade has traditional seaside amusements, and the nearby chalk downs offer coastal walks with stunning views. For more family fun, head to Blackgang Chine amusement park (8.5 miles) and Dinosaur Isle (3.5 miles) in Sandown, which features interactive exhibits and life-size models of prehistoric creatures native to the Isle of Wight.
