Gamekeeper's Cottage is a charming, cosy retreat set in a tranquil, private walled garden, ideal for couples or solo travellers seeking peace and relaxation. Guests consistently praise the beautiful surroundings, excellent location for exploring Kent, and the warm, helpful hosts. While the cottage is compact and best suited for short stays, it is well-equipped for two people. Some minor issues with cleanliness, shower pressure, and storage have been noted, but the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests eager to return.
Most guests found the cottage clean and tidy, but a few mentioned issues such as cobwebs, mould on window surrounds, and occasional pet hair. These concerns were not universal but did affect some stays.
The location is highly praised for its peacefulness, privacy, and proximity to Canterbury, the coast, and local attractions. The rural setting and beautiful garden are standout features.
Guests describe the cottage as cosy and comfortable, with a good bed and a warm atmosphere, especially with the wood burner. The small size is noted, making it best for short stays or solo travellers.
The cottage is well-equipped for basic needs, with a good kitchen and shower, though some guests noted the lack of an oven, weak shower pressure, and limited storage. Maintenance issues such as loose shower rails and mould were occasionally mentioned.
Hosts are frequently described as friendly and helpful. Some guests received welcome treats, but as these are not guaranteed, future guests should not expect them as standard.

Here you will find your very own secret garden, a perfect retreat into countryside tranquillity – well away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Inside, the detached cottage has been renovated with a smart bathroom and a new kitchen installed in 2021. As this cottage is small it might not be appropriate for guests with limited mobility. The medieval local village of Staple has a friendly pub/restaurant and Wingham and Sandwich are a short drive away. Canterbury is less than 10 miles away and is full of a great variety of shops and restaurants. There is a great choice of beaches nearby including Broadstairs, Sandwich Bay and Ramsgate.
Please note this is a rural location and the WiFi can be intermittent or slow at times.
Gamekeeper’s Cottage is perfect for couples who want to spend some quality time together; those in need of peace and escape can wander around their own ’Garden of Eden’, before exploring the beautiful countryside and nearby coast – the best Kent has to offer. Even France is accessible with the Eurotunnel, and the ports at Dover and Folkestone close by. There is a bus stop within walking distance with buses running to Sandwich and Canterbury.
Please note the cottage is very rural and the Wi-Fi can sometimes be a little inconsistent. Gamekeeper’s Cottage can be booked together with The Bothy (UKC1061) to accommodate up to 6 guests.

Travelled solo and absolutely perfect for me. Wonderful large and private gardens.

This must be The Location to beat all other locations. This small estate contains three Grade II buildings and a Grade II* wall enclosing what was presumably the walled garden. The cottage was surely once the glasshouse backed onto the wall that one again sees in such gardens. Now converted to comfortable accommodation. Think of those long-distance train journeys with your own toilet, then lounge and bedroom all in line. If you have been on such, or a cruise liner cabin, or a caravan or camping, or first-class travel on a plane. Then this is for you. Others may feel it is a bit too cramped. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay. What a garden and a listed wall forming our accommodation. Superb. Isolated in fruit orchards. Very clean, certainly value for money. Own parking space. Plenty of local amenities that we visited. Do visit nearby (5 miles) Wingham Wildlife Park. A zoo you have never heard of and up to date vast indoor/outdoor enclosures. Still being extended. The Romans landed here, and two Tudor castles are just a stone's throw away. Well done. We bought our food and used the microwave, so no comment about the local eateries.
