Gull House is praised for its excellent location, with proximity to the beach, a pub, and a fish shop. Guests enjoyed the local scenery and the property's practicality for family and pet-friendly holidays. Some modernisation and maintenance issues were noted, but the unique charm of the area and the convenience of nearby amenities were highlighted positively.
Several reviews mention a lack of cleanliness, with specific references to a dirty oven, greasy kitchen items, and dusty areas. The need for a deep clean and better housekeeping service is suggested.
The location is highly commended for its proximity to the beach, a pub, and a fish shop. The area's history and the scenic views are appreciated, making it a standout feature of the property.
Mixed feedback on comfort, with some guests finding the beds and seating comfortable, while others report uncomfortable beds and a lack of sleep due to light intrusion. The presence of comfortable furniture in some reviews helps balance the score.
Guests report issues with outdated appliances, poor Wi-Fi, and maintenance concerns such as low-hanging lights and gaps in floorboards. However, the presence of a well-stocked kitchen and games cupboard is noted.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the owners, so it is not possible to provide a score in this category.
Wow! What a location. Sea and shingle views for miles. So much to explore and with a local pub and fish shop within minutes walking distance. Why not take a trip on the steam train?.

Gull House sits right on the border of Lydd-on-Sea overlooking Dungeness and its picturesque shingle beach. Dungeness is a tiny fishing hamlet at the southernmost point of Kent, but it certainly does have a lot to offer! A range of fishing boats and converted wooden shacks having been turned into architectural delights providing sanctuary from a busy life, sit between the abundance of birdlife that call Dungeness home. Perfect for families wanting a beach holiday, ramblers and dog walkers for long walks or bird watchers with rspb Dungeness nature reserve nearby. If you prefer to hire a bike in Dungeness, you can cycle over Europe’s largest expanse of shingle.
Gull House really does offer something for everyone. The mixture of scenery is set within the backdrop of Dungeness lighthouse which assisted ships in trouble in the English Channel up until 1960. From the top of the lighthouse, you will be able to see miles across both Dungeness and Romney Marsh. You can watcht the sun rise from the back garden. Comfortable, functional shabby chic house with a beach theme throughout, Gull House is very welcoming and the perfect place to relax and unwind.
Offering a large open plan living room and dining room downstairs with a separate kitchen the doors to the rear of the property look directly over the shingle and beyond. Upstairs the property boasts two double bedrooms, a twin bedroom, and a single bedroom. A newly fitted toilet upstairs complements the new family bathroom downstairs with a large walk-in shower, perfect for washing off the sea water after a day on the beach. Of an evening, the enclosed garden provides the perfect spot to relax and for al fresco dining, however, no light pollution from streetlights makes it the perfect spot for star gazing. Gull House also welcomes your furry friends to join in the fun!
Running alongside the property during the day is the steam railway so you will be able to wave at tourists or locals as they head across the landscape to explore further. This is just one of the exciting quirks that the landscape has to offer. A hop over the tracks leads you to the local pub within a few steps along with a fresh seafood shop also selling other groceries opposite. You have everything to hand to be able to relax and enjoy your stay. Should you wish to explore further afield then towns such as Rye, Camber, New Romney, and Ashford are all a short drive away and offer a variety of other attractions. Camber and its sand dunes stretching for miles offer an alternative to the shingle and the historic town of Rye with its cobbled streets and historic buildings makes for a great day out. Hythe to the east and Hastings to the west are both worth a visit.

Our second fantastic stay and looking at booking a third as this lovely spacious house right on the beach and close to all local amenities. Great views from most of the windows, light and airy with a bright and cheerful decor. The beds were lovely and comfy and we all had lots of great night sleeps. It’s so convenient to have the pub right next door, no late nights or noise but great food and welcoming staff. So pleased to have found this place as it is very dog friendly. Karen is a super host, very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Can’t wait to come back.

Overall Gull House is grubby and very tired and in need of TLC and a thorough deep clean. Fridge and oven need replacing and kitchen lacked space for food storage and generally filthy.Downstair bathroom had thick dust around skirting boards and toilet was dirty on arrival and I needed to clean it.TV old and dated and WIFI didn't exist and owner needs to look a getting a better set up.Blackout curtains not blinds are needed as being blasted by the security lights from the pub next door all night was not great. However the Pilot pub next door was great for food and drink, the area was lovely and we enjoyed Kent yet again, but we will not be returning to Gull House as there are far better properties at better prices in Kent.
