Guests say

Ninea is a charming cottage praised for its serene Thames-side setting and proximity to Wallingford. Guests enjoy the spacious garden, wildlife, and the convenience of local amenities. While the property's location and views are highly regarded, some guests suggest that maintenance and a deep clean would enhance the experience.

Reviews indicate that while the property is generally clean, there are concerns about the need for a deeper clean, particularly with carpets and skylights. Some guests noted issues with cleanliness upon arrival, such as dirty carpets and bins.

The location is consistently celebrated for its beauty and convenience. Guests appreciate the proximity to the town, the peacefulness of the riverside, and the easy access to local shops and nature walks.

The property is described as comfortable, with ample space and good heating. However, some guests mentioned that certain aspects, such as the condition of skylights and the need for updated furniture, could improve comfort levels.

Facilities like Wi-Fi and heating are well-received, but there are several mentions of the property requiring maintenance, including attention to the decking, skylights, and general upkeep. The garden and fishing amenities are highlights, yet the need for updates is evident.

While some guests mentioned welcome gestures such as tea, coffee, and biscuits, there is not enough consistent information across reviews to accurately assess the level of thoughtfulness in terms of gifts or special touches provided by the hosts.

About this property

Hidden along a footpath in Wallingford, the large black door to this detached cottage gives no idea to the passer-by of what delights await guests behind it. Stepping into this spacious holiday home the first thing that greets you is the welcoming feeling. Large and comfortable, this self-catering cottage offers families and couples the perfect spot to take a weekend break or a long relaxing holiday. With four bedrooms, three with views across the river to the rural landscape beyond of the Chiltern Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the king-size double with patio doors to the raised terrace and the large wrap around sitting room, this is an ideal holiday hotspot.

If you are lucky enough to be celebrating a special event or birthday while staying at the cottage, the dining room is perfect for entertaining and seats all guests admirably. The well-equipped and fitted kitchen is what would be expected in a beautiful riverside home with double doors to close it off from the rest of the living area. But the real star of this vacation is the garden with a river mooring. Cascading lawns run down to meet the decking where you can watch passing boats and cheer on the rowers as they cut through the water or even hire a boat for the day.

Why not take a book and a cool drink and settle down to enjoy the tranquillity of the local birdsong, the sound of the river and the bells of the neighbouring St Leonards Church? Take a stroll through the quaint lanes of Wallingford and explore this quintessential English town with its tea rooms and local shops, pubs and restaurants. Why not look up what is showing at the theatre which is located in the town square? And if you think you may have seen this square before your visit and you are a fan of Midsomer Murders, then you have, Wallingford is the original Causton.

But its link to detectives goes back further than Midsomer Murders, Wallingford was the home, until her death in 1976, of Agatha Christie and she is buried nearby in Cholsey. Further afield you have the delights of Henley-on-Thames with its annual Regatta, or Oxford with its long history and dreaming spires. But whatever you decide to do on this holiday, or the next, the welcome of Ninea awaits your return.

Wallingford has a history dating back to King Alfred and it was at Wallingford that William the Conqueror crossed the Thames with his army, before marching on London. Wallingford Castle was built at his command to cement it's royal importance, and during its lifetime has played host to many royal visitors including King John, Henry Vl and Edward the Black Prince, to name but a few. Unfortunately, what remains of it now is only impressive earth works but some of the stones were re-used to build the St Mary-le-More Church which can be found near the centre of the town.

The setting is fantastic and we were well pleased with the garden and river location. The fishing was good and the setting very peaceful. The bedrooms and size of property was perfect for our party. The property needs a little attention to bring it up to standard. A deep clean could help. I understand the carpets are due to be replaced. The various patio doors need ledges at the bottom to be cleaned We arrived to find somebody had left food waste in the internal bin. No bin bags were supplied and bins under sink need cleaning When I dropped an item in double bedroom and knelt down to retrieve it I was surprised to find no hoovering had been done underneath the bed. A visitor book could be very useful as information book has no paper for comments. We left a note about light bulbs needing replacing two in kitchen and three in lounge. We returned one day to find the fire alarm had fallen from the ceiling. Thankyou for the milk and biscuits much appreciated. We had a lovely stay and would certainly return to this property and it would be 5 star plus with a little attention and updating.

Great sitting in the garden and watching the rowing boats and occasional kingfisher.

The position right by the Thames is very special and the outside dining area is great! Such a great place to watch the world go by, by the river. It was wonderful to have easy access to the town and facilities and a great base for exploring further afield. It was very useful having off road parking as the on street parking was very difficult. Similar to previous reviews the parking under the trees does cause a lot of mess but having read previous reviews we came armed with some sheeting to cover the cars. This worked well. We have left this for subsequent stayers - if no one has chucked it out! As previously mentioned, the house is in need of some maintenance in particular the carpets. The dishwasher is located with the washing machine in the ‘utility room’. The house could from supplying trays to help carry plates etc from kitchen to dining room/outside space/dishwasher. It was the first rental property that I have been in where there isn’t anything left from previous stays e.g washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets - I always bring my own anyway but was surprised to see nothing left! The bins were overflowing when we arrived so we had nowhere to put our rubbish so had to leave it by the bin. We weren’t staying when there was a bin collection. The house is warm with plenty of hot water. We enjoyed our stay but look forward to seeing some maintenance upgrades with this property.
