Abingdon-on-Thames is a historic town situated in rural Oxfordshire, where the river Thames meets the River Ock.
The town thrives on its independence and has everything on your doorstep that you could wish for including small shops, cafés, restaurants, offering a choice of foods from around the world, and many excellent pubs. The town’s marketplace hosts weekly Monday markets, monthly farmers’ markets and quarterly local food and craft markets.
There are beautiful riverside walks to be enjoyed along the Thames just a few yards away from the property, lovely architecture to be admired, historical treasures, parks and gardens, and a choice of leisure facilities including boating, swimming, and fishing. The university city of Oxford is within 8 miles which you can catch the regular local bus to within a short walk from the property, and has many attractions to include the Bodleian Library, punting along the river, an eclectic mix of restaurants, cafés and bars and great shopping at the Westfield shopping centre.
There are Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in every direction, including the Berkshire Downs, The Cotswolds, and The Chilterns. You can spend time meandering through country roads, admiring the beautiful scenery, walking, and cycling and stopping off at country pubs along the way. Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Winston Churchill, is 16 miles and hosts many events throughout the year. For shopaholics, no trip to this area would be complete without a trip to Bicester shopping village, with numerous designer outlet shops within a 30-minute drive. The nearest train station is in Didcot with regular trains to London.

This is a small upstairs appt in old timbered building . Accesible for day trips to Oxford and close proximity to Thames .

Lovely location, great flat, very quiet and peaceful and space to park our car. It was perfect! will definitely book again when we next visit our family in the area

The loft apartment of 4 Hive Mews is very nice, the stairs are likely to be a bit of a worry to any unsteady older folks and an automatic outside light that worked would be helpful. It would be nice if the scratchy bush was trimmed back to avoid scratches to car paintwork (maybe this is a winter thing). Otherwise the accommodation is nice. Do look for WIFI connection information on the new router, rather than the book, as the book is out of date. There is a COOP and Post Office a very short walk away that sells most things that somebody self-catering will appreciate, maybe for buying basic supplies like toilet role, milk and washing up sponges. We did find a half bottle of opened milk in the fridge and as it had been opened we threw it away to be on the safe side. Presumably the cleaner missed this. If we stay in the area again we would definitely consider Hive Mews again and despite the somewhat negative points above they should not deter anyone from staying there.
