Guests say

Captains Retreat in Christchurch is highly regarded for its prime location, comfort, and cleanliness. Guests appreciate the property's proximity to local attractions, the ease of parking, and the pleasant outdoor space. The accommodation is described as welcoming, well-equipped, and suitable for both short and long stays. While some minor maintenance issues and nearby construction work were mentioned, the overall sentiment is positive, with many guests planning to return.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The property is consistently described as very clean and tidy, with only a few comments about minor stains on the carpet. The high level of cleanliness contributes to the welcoming atmosphere of the cottage.

The location is highly praised for its convenience, with easy access to local attractions, the river, and the town centre. The quiet street and proximity to nature spots like Hengistbury Head and Stanpit Marsh are also appreciated.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, especially during the winter months. The addition of ensuites adds to the comfort level. However, some guests suggested improvements such as better TV remotes and thinner bedding for children in summer.

The property is well-equipped with necessary amenities and a good Wi-Fi connection. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as dripping taps, a need for new TV remotes, and construction work next door, which impacted the peacefulness of the location.

While the reviews reflect a positive experience, there is no mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches provided by the hosts that would fall under this category. Therefore, a score cannot be provided.

About this property

A tastefully furnished and well-equipped, mid-terrace holiday home, tucked away in a quiet residential cul-de-sac, a short stroll from the quayside in the lovely, historic Dorset town of Christchurch. This charming cottage is an ideal base for families or friends with the Dorset coast within easy reach, as is the beautiful New Forest National Park. Once you enter this lovely cottage you will find a pleasant and well-equipped kitchen/diner that has everything you need to create tasty treats for your group, and from here there’s a door leading out into a small, enclosed decked garden, which provides a great place to sit out with your morning coffee and plan the day’s activities. Also on the ground floor is a cosy sitting room with electric fire, and there’s the convenience of a basin and WC on this floor too. Upstairs, both bedrooms boast en-suite facilities, so there’s no queuing for the bathroom in the morning! To the front there’s allocated parking so you can leave your car all day and wander the short distance into the town centre and treat yourselves to a meal and a tipple at any one of the numerous quality pubs and restaurants. Enjoy exploring the old castle ruins and stunning priory, or just relax with an ice cream in the riverside park, where often bands play, and if you fancy a boat trip then take one of the regular ferries that gently chug their way up the River Stour. Take the short Wick Ferry by the Captains Club Hotel and discover a lovely pathed walk through fields towards the famous Hengistbury Head, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, which boasts stunning coastal views. Within reach are the golden sands of Mudeford and all the attractions of the vibrant seaside resort of Bournemouth. This really is a superb Dorset holiday home to be enjoyed all year round.

The Dorset waterside town of Christchurch has an array of charming shops and quality restaurants, along with a quayside, 11th century castle ruins and a Medieval priory. Take a trip to the resort of Bournemouth or the New Forest National Park, which are both just a short drive away.

The house is very well equipped and the parking out the front is a bonus. It's very close to the river and a short walk into the town. We really enjoyed our stay.

All communications were very clear, everything worked and the parking space is an absolute boon. The addition of the garden room since our last visit was a very pleasant (and enjoyable) surprise. We booked for a week and extended for a fortnight, enough said!

Plenty of rooms and a wonderful conservatory with sliding doors. We think this is one of the best properties we have ever stayed in. The two en-suite bedrooms were great, as well as the kitchen and main room. Back garden has a shed to lock bikes in. Good parking (x2 spaces), great access to the town of Christchurch.
