About this property

Carrows Stable is a stunning stable conversion settled in the quiet Cornish hamlet of Morwenstow, sitting at the top of a long drive leading up to The Old Vicarage, built by the famous Revered Hawker. The property is set mostly over the first-floor and enjoys vintage features like the art deco low arched windows and exposed beams, with valley sea views to enjoy too, it's perfect for those seeking a tranquil base not far from the sea. Following a wonderful day of activities, begin to relax within the open-plan living space, stepping across the wooden floors to the seating area to unwind, or heading into the pretty blue fitted kitchen to rustle up a tasty meal. Discover all the appliances you need here and gather at the dining table and chairs at mealtimes, or head outside to the garden lawn in sunny weather to dine alfresco on the furniture. The décor throughout the property is classic country style, continuing its elegance into the super-king-size bedroom on the first floor, boasting a high, vaulted ceiling above and a blush pink theme, with an en-suite bathroom home to a roll-top bath with handheld shower. A double bedroom also rests on this floor featuring an en-suite shower room, whilst down on the ground floor, guests can find the attractive twin room served by its own en-suite bathroom, affording all guests with a private space to freshen up. The property rests next door to The Old Vicarage, built by Reverend Hawker, famous for introducing Harvest Festivals and helping shipwrecked mariners, with closer inspection revealing the vicarage's chimneys to be models of church towers, providing some interesting architecture on your doorstep. Walk along the footpath to the coast, enjoying the valley scenery before being met with the beautiful seascapes, giving easy access to the South West Coast Path which walkers are sure to love, making sure to visit Hawker's Hut built into the side of the cliff. Excellent seasonal tea rooms can be found at the top of the drive, perfect for an afternoon treat, while the much-loved pub, The Bush Inn, is within a short stroll too. Venture over to the neighbouring hamlet of Shop to find the nearest convenience store to Carrows Stable, with the town of Kilkhampton also offering further amenities. Plenty of beaches lie along the coast, with smaller, quieter spots like Duckpool Bay, and larger stretches like Sandymouth Beach and Bude's central Summerleaze Beach with the fantastic Bude Sea Pool. Walk along Bude's Breakwater before heading up to Compass Point to soak up the sunset over the town, with lots of restaurants and pubs to enjoy, along with attractions like the history museum within The Castle Bude. Make amazing memories in exceptionally beautiful surroundings at Carrow Stables in Cornwall.

Lying on the Hartland Cornwall Heritage Coast is the small rural hamlet of Morwenstow, just ten miles north of Bude. This charming setting is home to a much-loved pub, The Bush Inn, and is just a stone's throw from the neighbouring hamlet of Shop, aptly named as it is home to the nearest convenience store. With The Rectory Tearooms and the Bush Inn close by, very good food was always at hand. The kitchen was very well equipped. Paula, the owner of Carrows Stable, was very kind and always helpful (she also cut the plants so that we had a great view from the window in the living room). Her dog Seamus was absolutely adorable and a highlight of our stay. Nevertheless, I agree with Carolyn´s review (August 2023) concerning the condition of the cottage: it needs redecorating and the cleaning was not very well done (cobwebs, empty dogfood tin from a previous tenant in the dustbin ...). The second bedroom and bathroom in the first floor are very small. Although the cottage is supposed to host six guests, I think the eating table is too small for more than four people. The pictures of the art deco window are not really accurate, because the window sill is not wide enough to sit there comfortably. Since old houses often smell musty, it would have been nice if the house had been ventilated and heated before we arrived. We also missed hooks in the entry hall for our jackets - luckily it didn´t rain during our stay so we just put them over a chair. In terms of price, I would have expected

If you love walking and want a complete get away from hustle and bussel this is the place for you but be aware you will need your car alot. We met the owner and the renowned seamus the dog on day 1, very friendly and helpful. The cottage has all you could want but is getting a bit tired around the edges I think some tlc required soon and maybe just a tad better cleaning as dusty round edges, however only minor issue. We walked along the cliffs on many paths my 2 sons did a few longer yomps where they walked back from other places we visited such as sandy Bay. We visited Port isaac, tintagell, Eden project, lanhydroc House and gardens, Padstow. The Bush inn a short stroll up the road does lovely food and very nice staff if you don't want to cook, nice local cider too. It would have been lovely if tree could be pruned so sunsets could be seen out to sea from big window in lounge. It now obscures most of view and sunsets are quite spectacular. Better sheets would also be good, again clean and OK but they are rough even my 15year old commented on them. Thankyou for a lovely holiday we have all returned home much more chilled than when we arrived.

Very clean, comfortable and very well equipped. Paula is a wonderful host and her Bedlington Whippet Seamus is just the friendliest dog you could wish to meet. The location is stunning and the large garden is a pleasure to spend time in. Nearby walks and beaches are lovely and the Bush Inn just up the road is very nice and serves very good food. We shall certainly be looking to return to Carrows in the not too distant future. Thank you.
