Just 100 metres uphill of the historic harbour, it welcomes guests into a pastel-coloured open-plan living room, with seating arranged before a wood burner-style electric heater, and a bay window giving views across the water. To the rear of this space is a dining suite with room for eight; close by, steps lead to a stylish kitchen – home to all the self-catering must-haves and a separate utility room and WC. Home-from-home essentials such as a Smart TV, Nespresso coffee machine, range-style cooker and dishwasher are all provided while, upstairs, there’s a fabulous family bathroom for a fresh start to each new day. Three peaceful bedrooms offer night-time flexibility: one has a king-size bed, one has twin beds and the other has bunk beds. On the top floor, the spacious master suite has a king-size bed, sloping ceilings and an excellent harbour view, plus its own shower room. For a breath of fresh air, step from the kitchen into the high-walled courtyard garden where there’s sofa-style outdoor seating on a decked area.
Explore Fowey’s cobbled streets and you’ll find a town steeped in history – alongside the busy shops, bars and restaurants, you’ll want to visit the beach at Readymoney Cove and, above it, the ruins of 15th-century St Catherine’s Castle – the smallest in Cornwall. To explore further afield, take the ferry across the river to Polruan, an ancient fishing village with a proud boat-building heritage. Alternatively, drive to the renowned Eden Project, 9 miles away, or Charlestown (8 miles), famous for its tall ships and synonymous with the TV series Poldark.
