About this property

Helford 3 miles. Nestled in the small hamlet of Newtown St. Martin in the Cornish countryside, is the quintessential Holly Cottage. The cottage is just a short stroll from the village pub where you can enjoy a meal and a night cap. This three-bedroom property dates back 250 years and with exposed stone walls, beamed ceilings and a wood burning stove, the cottage retains much of its character. Bring along your friends and loved ones to this charismatic abode and step inside to discover the open-plan living space, with a contemporary kitchen area, which offers everything you need, including electric oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher. Savour mealtimes together at the dining table or on a summer evening why not carry the conversation outdoors onto the rear garden, with a glass of wine in hand. As night draws to a close, retire to the sitting area, where you can sink into the sofa with a tub of popcorn and choose between a selection of DVDs. After a day exploring the sweeping countryside, take yourself upstairs to the tiled bathroom, where you can soak in the tub or rinse the day away in the overhead shower. When sleep calls, there are three bedrooms to choose from, with a double and single with built-in wardrobes and a twin bedroom with bedside table. Take a short scenic car journey to several beaches and coves, the scenery is stunning. If you're looking for a charming town steeped in history and natural beauty, look no further than Helston, with its boating lake and an array of shops, there's something for everyone to enjoy. The fishing villages of Coverack with local restaurants and Porthallow is also worth a trip, with a very quite pebbled beach and pub, that offers good food. The village of St Keverne also hosts The Three Tuns, a fantastic restaurant and bar that serves up delicious food and drink. You will not be short of places to eat with a short car journey. For a cottage brimming with charm, consider Holly Cottage.

The South Helford village of Manaccan has an outstanding restaurant, a welcoming inn, and a lovely 12th-century church. South Helford is one of Cornwall's most beautiful, unspoiled areas. The area is calm, lovely, and timeless, with winding country roads, picturesque rivers, and waterside settlements. South Helford's protected coves are great for playing on the water and wandering along the shore. Leave your phone behind and enjoy simple pleasures like kayaking in the shallows, exploring hidden coves with a St Anthony boat, and picnicking in the woods.

The fridge is far too small. It was inadequate for two people let alone the full occupancy of five people. Also it was not cold enough to keep food fresh. As cottage owners ourselves we have found that most guests eat out rather than cook and the lack of fridge capacity may not be an issue where this is the case. Parking was not an issue. We could park outside the cottage with hazard lights on to unload on arrival and pack up on departure. No problem at all parking by the hedge a little further away from the centre of the village, ie to the south of the cottage. We received a notification from Sykes before our departure saying that the parking arrangements had changed from the details provided when we booked. This was not the case since the parking arrangement was correctly described at the time of booking. The stairs to the first floor are steep but you soon get used to them. They may not be suitable for people with impaired mobility.

Village shop closed some time ago. Nearest one 2.5 miles away. VERY steep stairs with extremely awkward stair gate at the top. Totally unsuitable for less agile guests. Tatty overgrown garden. I insufficient crockery. Overall not what we expected for a 4 ticks property.

The garden was a haven of peace! The only issue was the chairs in the lounge were quite uncomfortable and also the stairs were steep, as usual in old cottages.
