Guests say

The Chace in Cornwall is a well-received cottage, praised for its prime location near the beach and local amenities. Guests appreciate the property's cleanliness, comfort, and the thoughtful welcome pack. While some noted areas for improvement, the overall sentiment is positive, with many guests returning for multiple stays.

Most guests found The Chace to be clean and well-maintained, though a few mentioned issues with mould, dust, and a damp smell. The majority of reviews, however, reflect a high standard of cleanliness.

The location is highly praised for its proximity to the beach, local pubs, and amenities, making it an ideal base for exploring Cornwall. The convenience and ease of access to local attractions are consistently noted as positives.

Guests generally regard The Chace as comfortable, with special mentions of the beds and furniture. Some guests, however, reported issues with uncomfortable beds and insufficient heating, which slightly lowers the overall comfort score.

The property is appreciated for being well-equipped, though some guests suggest updates are needed, particularly in the bathroom and kitchen. Comments about the need for a larger fridge/freezer and more robust cleaning supplies suggest room for improvement in facilities and maintenance.

The welcome pack, including cream teas and dog treats, is frequently mentioned and appreciated, indicating a high level of thoughtfulness. However, it should be noted that such gestures, while common, are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Positioned just paces from the glorious sandy beach in Portreath, The Chace is a homely and well-presented coastal retreat. Set in the heart of this buzzing resort, it offers accommodation over two floors, with a pretty front garden and off-road parking. On the ground floor is an entrance porch for sandy flip-flops and boogie boards, leading into the separate sitting room with mock electric wood burner, comfy sofas and beams. The contemporary kitchen with dining area is ideal for foody gatherings. Patio doors lead out to the courtyard at the rear, which is gated and can be enclosed, with a driveway for one car plus additional space directly at the foot of the garden wall and third parking space in front of the garage (garage not available).

The garden table and chairs makes a good spot for sunny nibbles and cream teas. On the first floor, three comfortable bedrooms greet you; a double with king-size bed and TV for duvet watching, twin bedroom and the bunk bedroom. The family bathroom with shower over completes this super seaside haven. Portreath Beach makes a fabulous playground for surfing escapades, swimming and picnics. Walk the stunning coast path to Porthtowan or Godrevy and Gwithian, through nature reserves and sand dunes, having a pit stop at a beachside café. Truro, with its majestic cathedral and retail, cinema and theatre, plus restaurants, bars and pubs is a short drive away.

Closer to home, there are beach inns, shops and cafes just paces from The Chace – so you can relax, have fun with that bucket and spade or simply devour a pasty lunch or fish and chip supper aside a picturesque seascape on the north Cornish coast. Tehidy Park is great for cycle rides and dog rambles or tee off a round of golf at the nearby green. Portreath has so much to offer and The Chace is the perfect base for family, friends and couples to enjoy new adventures.

Portreath, with its sheltered harbour, attracts visitors from around the world with its wild and rugged coastline. And knowing what parking can be like especially in summer time we had no worries as parking is at the property. On approach we were pleasantly surprised as it looked tidy from the outside with its own driveway at the rear. On entry to the property it smelled clean and not musty and there is a good sized kitchen diner that had everything you need! Well equipped. Light and airy with a lovely welcome pack. The lounge was lovely too with a smart t v which was good as main tv channels in the area are limited for free view channels. We loved the nautical theme through the home. Internet was good too for general use. Stairs are nice and wide. Bedrooms were a good size as was the bathroom and all light and airy and clean. Main bed was super comfy for us! Peter and Jackie have really put great effort into making this a home from home for their guests. If you go on holiday looking for dust or 1 hair you will find it but compared to the many holiday homes we have stayed in around cornwall this was in the top three without question. We loved it and appreciated it and will return. Being a pet friendly home we were surprised there was no doggy smells considering it is close to a beach where dogs get wet! The only 1 thing I would mention is a new can opener maybe but that's all we could complain about lol Loved it and thank you
