About this property

Perfectly located for touring both Devon and Cornwall, this beautifully furnished barn conversion is set in glorious Cornish countryside, close to the village of St Mellion. Ideal for families or couples, Old Orchard Barn offers luxury throughout in a great setting for both relaxing and sporting holidays. Set across the ground-floor, enter the cottage into the impressive hallway linking the rooms together. The open-plan living area is the social hub of the home, featuring a bright and airy feel with a sumptuous corner sofa, ideal for relaxing upon as you reflect on the day's events. Cross the threshold to the kitchen, amply-equipped to inspire home-cooking, here you can utilise the range cooker, gas hob, microwave and fridge/freezer to prepare hearty meals. Serve the fruits of your labour at the centre dining table, toasting to a long-awaited getaway with your nearest and dearest. When the night rolls in, choose from the four tastefully presented bedrooms; there is a super-king-size with en-suite, a king-size and two further doubles. Start the morning with a rinse in the bathroom, choosing between the bath or shower over, before heading out and wandering the beautiful surroundings. At the rear of the cottage is the private patio and lawned area housing a Jacuzzi hot tub; just what you’ll crave after a long day of exploring. The St Mellion International resort is only a mile away, featuring a leisure centre with swimming pools, sauna, Jacuzzi, gym, and the Elemis Day spa as well as tennis courts and, of course, the world-renowned European tour golf course. With these superb facilities as well as a brasserie and an award-winning restaurant, you will have so much to entertain you before returning to the luxury of Old Orchard Cottage. Crocadon Farm, a soil-centric farm with a charming restaurant at its heart that is open Friday to Sunday also lies in the villages of St Mellion. Pentillie Estate is very close by and is recognised as a top shooting estate. Less than 20 miles away is the glorious Cornish coastline, where you can spend an afternoon meandering the coastline and get involved with Cornwall's favourite pastime of surfing or swimming in the clear waters. Guests can also visit the popular port city of Plymouth, immerse yourself in the city’s history by visiting the Mayflower Steps memorial, that marks the pilgrims setting sail in 1620 or head to Plymouth Hoe for breath-taking views across Plymouth and to see the statue of Sir Francis Drake who defeated the Spanish Armada after finishing his games of bowls on the green nearby. Plymouth Hoe also hosts exciting events including the must-see British Firework Championship and Armed Forces Day. Be sure to tour the waterside Barbican neighbourhood, its narrow, cobbled streets and visit the myriad of specialist shops, galleries, cafes, pubs and restaurants here. Choose Old Orchard Barn for a special base in Cornwall. This property can be booked together with property 1125948, to accommodate 10 guests.

On the boundary of Devon and Cornwall, the little community of St. Mellion is close to the Crocadon Quarry, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (sssi), and the St. Mellion International Resort, which provides recreational and wellness services. The town of Saltash, which is 6 miles away, is dominated by the majestic Tamar Bridge, one of Brunel's engineering marvels. The Tamar River is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the bridge connects Devon and Cornwall. The town also boasts a variety of shops and taverns, as well as tiny alleys that rise sharply from the river's banks. River cruises upstream to Calstock, a charming village with white homes on a steep hillside, are available from the ancient quayside. Here, one of Britain's most picturesque branch lines descends to the shore over the River Tamar on the 120 foot tall, 11-arched Calstock Railway Viaduct. In addition to exploring the two moors, Bodmin and Dartmoor, as well as the scenic coastal trails and beaches of the North and South coastlines, the area provides some lovely walks and bicycle routes right in the neighbourhood of St. Mellion. The nearby city of Plymouth has a lot to offer tourists, including the National Marine Aquarium, various theatres, the historic Plymouth Hoe, and Barbican quayside district with cafés, boutiques, and bistros. Everyone can find something. Cornwall is home to many National Trust properties, including Cotelhele House & Quay, which is only a few miles away, as well as the Minnack Theatre, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, and the Eden Project, all of which are conveniently located. St. Mellion is the ideal starting point for visiting both Devon and Cornwall.
