Guests say

Maylands cottage boasts a wonderful location with stunning views and a large garden, ideal for pets and children. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen and the property's potential, despite noting some maintenance issues.

Several reviews mention poor cleanliness, with dirty carpets, sofas, and kitchenware. There are also reports of cobwebs and pests, indicating a need for a more thorough cleaning regimen.

The location is highly praised for its beauty, tranquillity, and proximity to local attractions. Guests enjoy the rural setting and the views, making it a highlight of their stay.

The comfort of the cottage receives mixed feedback. While the garden and views are appreciated, issues with cold, dampness, and inadequate lighting affect the overall comfort level.

Facilities are noted to be well-stocked in terms of kitchen utensils, but there are several maintenance concerns, including leaky windows, broken curtain fittings, and outdated furniture.

Guests mention the lack of a welcome pack and suggest that including a few essentials and small touches would enhance the experience. While some guests have experienced thoughtful gestures elsewhere, it is not a consistent offering at Maylands.

About this property

Situated just a short way inland above the bay of Port Gaverne, Maylands is a tranquil and secluded coastal bolthole. The small and sheltered beach of Port Gaverne is just a five-minute walk, and from here you can enjoy swimming, kayaking and even coasteering, followed by a hearty lunch in the popular Port Gaverne pub. Continue around the cliff to Port Isaac with its thriving fishing harbour, and quaint cobbled high street, peppered with boutique gift shops and galleries, and award winning eateries. Located in an elevated position, the property enjoys beautiful rural views, and a glimpse of the sea in the distance - a particular feature of Maylands are the extensive grounds, perfect for those with a little energy to expend, your canine companion included! Sleeping six people in three bedrooms, this is a charming and welcoming holiday cottage perfect for a family getaway.

All situated on the ground floor, the accommodation at Maylands is friendly and welcoming, and you instantly feel at home upon entering the property. The bedrooms are flooded with natural light, making them restful spaces for recharging the batteries after busy days spent exploring. Outside, the spacious terrace is the perfect area for outdoor meals whilst enjoying the stunning views.

Situated in a prime location to explore the coast of North Cornwall, outdoor enthusiasts will welcome the challenge and beauty of the nearby South West Coast Path, with trails leading through Port Isaac to Port Quin, and the breath-taking bays of Epphaven and Lundy. Oppositely, head North to discover Trebarwith Strand, which on a low tide is the ultimate environment for children keen to explore rock pools and caves. By car, a short 10-minute drive will bring you to the popular beaches of Polzeath, Daymer Bay and Rock, with a foot ferry across to Padstow making it the perfect location from which to explore the North coast of Cornwall.

Port Isaac; one of the true Cornish treasures. A beautiful fishing village nestling in a steep sided valley, the old village in the valley remains unchanged from its days of fishing, slate export and smuggling in the previous century. An abundance of small character properties complemented by larger cliff-top retreats, can be found with easy access to the numerous restaurants and shops of the village. The sandy harbour provides an abundance of rock pools as the tide retreats. Only ten minutes drive from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock, it is perfect for romantic and family holidays alike. Not swept. Dirty windows and doorways. Weeds and broken unstable slabs. Inside kitchen cupboards needing repairs. Some pots and pans needed cleaning before we could use them. All curtains in property broken from runners not closing properly and dirty. Lounge carpet very stained, sofa and chair covers poorly fitting and dirty/stained, dirty and particle collection underneath sofa and chair cushions needing hoovering. Windows blown in lounge and bedrooms. Cobwebs abundant, behind chairs and furniture not clean or hoovered. No DVD player as stated. Lamps in bedrooms not working, no hanging space, articles of clothing found in bedroom drawers..not ours ! Fire extinguisher out of safety use date. Fan in bedroom failed safety test as no cover on it ! It's a shame because the property is in a lovely location with lots of Outside space . No little extras added like welcome pack or good decent furniture for outside. Hoover very smelly when needed to use. Won't be returning to Mayland

Curtain fittings broken so difficultly closing curtains. Shower water leaks all over the bathroom floor. Lots of flys around the place and also wood lice which I found about 20 in the double bedroom. Soon got rid of them. The kitchen is well equipped and a lovely size. We did think that 1 twin room 1 bunk bed and 1 double should maybe change to 2 doubles and 1 twin, if there’s more than 1 couple going sleeping in a bunk bed wasn’t so good, luckily it was just my husband and myself so we didn’t have an issue with smaller beds. We did have a great week. Despite the issues . It was peaceful and lovely waking up to the cows grazing in the fields. Port Isaac is well worth a visit and a little place called Port Quin is a stunning little cove with gorgeous views. Our Dog Archie loved the huge garden to play in.
