About this property

This traditional, south-facing end-of-terrace cottage sits in a peaceful location a mile from the coast in the Cornish hamlet of Penrose which is made up of 14 cottages, making it almost vehicle free. A pretty and very traditional Cornish cottage, it provides all-year-round accommodation for families in this lovely part of north Cornwall. On the ground floor a smart conservatory with lovely cane furniture for admiring the pretty rural view, leads into a homely length-of-cottage sitting room with ancient beams and large fireplace with a wood burning stove. Enjoy family meals round the chunky table in the dining room with traditional slate floors, all freshly prepared in the well-appointed kitchen with practical utility room and pantry.

Relax and enjoy alfresco meals in the sunny, south-facing garden bordered by a rose-topped slate/granite wall. It’s a pleasant walk to the sandy beach at Porthcothan or the spectacular beach at Bedruthan Steps, where a row of colossal, pointed stacks march out into the Atlantic waves. Padstow’s fine harbour, restaurants and bars are just a short drive away. A quiet, peaceful cottage, Uphill Cottage is a lovely base for exploring the seven fine beaches all within three miles of Penrose.

St Merryn is a typical Cornish village, located within two miles of the coast and close to the picturesque harbour and fishing port of Padstow. Surrounded by some of Cornwall's best surfing beaches and golf courses, St Merryn is a holidaymakers dream, offering two pubs, three restaurants, a chinese takeaway, a chip shop, mini markets and a Post Office, yet St Merryn remains within easy reach of the area's visitor attractions. The vibrant town of Newquay is eleven miles down the road, boasting three major beaches, the National Surf Centre and an endless supply of rolling surf, making it a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. Newquay also offers good shopping, a zoo, a Sea Life centre and a variety of nightspots, clubs, pubs and restaurants. Set back from the main holiday crowds, St Merryn is an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area at your leisure.

It’s situated in a very peaceful & quiet hamlet but only a short drive to the many beaches for walking or just admiring the beautiful views. We both felt very relaxed & recharged by the end of our stay in this beautiful part of Cornwall.

The conservatory at the front sees the sun from dawn to dusk. As it was a sunny week, that’s where we were, or out on the patch of lawn. There’s a large comfortable sitting room and a small dining room which would be cosy places to be on colder darker days. The three bedrooms, kitchen, and bathroom are all a good size. An easy walk down a valley footpath to the nearest beach. Lovely place to stay.
