Guests consistently praise Mays Cottage for its charm, comfort, and beautiful garden. The property's location is ideal for exploring Cornwall's beaches and attractions. The owner's attentiveness and thoughtful welcome packages add to the positive experience, although some guests mention minor issues with parking and the driveway.
The majority of reviews highlight the cottage as 'spotlessly clean'. However, a few guests noted areas that could benefit from deeper cleaning, suggesting a slight deduction from a perfect score.
The cottage is commended for its excellent location, close to Padstow, beaches, and attractions. The convenience for exploring Cornwall is frequently mentioned, indicating a high level of satisfaction.
Comfort is frequently praised, with mentions of a 'homely feel', 'comfortable beds', and a 'cosy lounge'. A few comments about an uncomfortable mattress suggest a small reduction from an otherwise high score.
Facilities are generally well-regarded, especially the well-equipped kitchen and utility room. Some guests noted issues with parking for larger vehicles and the need for maintenance in shower areas, which affects the score slightly.
Guests frequently mention and appreciate the welcome packages, which include treats for both humans and dogs. While these gestures are highly valued, it is noted that such gifts are subject to the owner's discretion and may not be guaranteed.

There’s the added bonus of a very smart ground floor bathroom. Up on the first floor are three smart bedrooms, a king size double with en suite shower room, a twin with a walk-in wardrobe and en suite shower room, and a room with two sets of bunk beds. The pretty, large enclosed sunny garden boasts two patio areas with garden furniture for enjoying the sunshine and a large lawned area. There’s a handy warm, outdoor shower, perfect for washing down sandy children and dogs, and drying facilities for wetsuits in the garage. It is the first time we have been away for Christmas and it didnât disappoint. The cottage was nicely decorated for Christmas and very well equipped with everything we could need. It was very cosy, the beds were comfortable and we loved the conservatory area. Both the cottage and the garden are dog friendly, our 4 legged friends were very happy by the log fire, highly recommended.

We like to drive out to other areas and the cottage was in a great place to be able to do this. We managed to park three cars on the driveway. Shower pressure was good. Whilst we appreciate the cottage is 300 years old, unfortunately even with leaving the windows open all day and night, the slight smell damp and must was not pleasant. Everything felt slightly damp, for example the sofas and the bed sheets/pillows etc. the cottage was only âsurfacedâ cleaned and would really benefit from a deep clean. The fridge had an unpleasant smell and could do with a good clean. There was mildew build up around the bath taps in the downstairs bathroom and cobwebs and dust everywhere - around the window and the skirting boards etc. just felt a little grimy. Overall there were lots of positives, but sadly some negatives too.
