About this property

Seaworthy is a private detached property set in a wonderful location with beautiful views across fields to the Camel Estuary, St Enodoc Church, Brea Hill and Padstow.

There is a footpath from the house which takes you across the St Enodoc golf course, past St Enodoc Church (where Poet Laureate Sir John Betjeman is buried) and through the sand dunes onto Daymer Bay Beach (voted one of the best beaches in the world!) where you can enjoy picnics, bath in the shallow waters and spend hours of fun building sandcastles, rock pooling, paddle boarding or kite surfing. You might even catch a crab for supper!

Daymer Bay Beach is dog friendly all year round and the coastal footpath leads onto either Rock (where you can catch the ferry to Padstow or go water skiing) or to Polzeath Beach (where you can enjoy bodyboarding or surfing).

For keen walkers wanting to explore further, the footpath connects with the South West Coast Path making Seaworthy the perfect house if you want to leave the car at home and explore those amazing estuary walks and sea views.

Seaworthy is simply decorated, with 5 bedrooms accommodating up to 9 guests. It makes an ideal base for families, with a separate kids TV/games room and the added benefit of a large boot, coat and dog room for those sandy feet, shoes and beach gear.

There is a family-sized kitchen with the essentials and a dining area which can seat up to eight guests. The sitting room has wonderful views with two armchairs, a three person sofa and a six guest dining table. The kids TV/games room has seating for four guests.

To the rear of the house there is a small lawned garden with a sunny patio where you can relax and soak up those wonderful views. Outside there is parking for three large cars. Well behaved dogs are welcome, by arrangement in advance.

Locally there are plenty of shops, fine restaurants, pubs, cafes and galleries to choose from. A short walk from the house is Flo’s Kitchen village shop with a deli, bakery and cafe as well as the Mowhay Restaurant and the St Moritz Hotel which has two restaurants and a Cowshed Spa.

Daymer Bay and the village of Trebetherick were both loved by Sir John Betjeman and are unquestionably special. With a huge appeal to both the young and not so young, Daymer Bay has recently been voted one of the best beaches in the world! St. Enodoc Church, once buried in the sand, is within comfortable walking distance of Daymer Bay and is the resting place of Sir John Betjeman. Daymer Bay holds great appeal for wind surfers, kite surfers and paddle boarders, with the gentle waves rolling up the estuary. There is enormous fun too for small children with buckets and spades and fishing in the rock pools. At low tide you can walk across the sand to the village of Rock to indulge in a spot of retail therapy or a bite to eat at one of the many delicious eateries, or catch the short ferry ride and explore the delights of Padstow. Up from the coast path as it runs from Daymer Bay is Highcliffe, nestling between Polzeath and Trebetherick, both of which boast a number of pubs, restaurants and village stores all offering a wide variety of fresh quality produce. The properties at Highcliffe have the advantage of being within easy reach of Daymer, Polzeath and Greenaway - Greenaway being the name given to the clifftop area, beach and small cove with rock pools overlooking the Atlantic beyond that lies between Daymer and Polzeath.

The location was great for proximity to the beach and local amenities. The property has lots of space and a very well equipped kitchen which was great for self catering. The only negative we have to say is that the living room carpet was covered in dog hair…of all colours so I would say this is a build up of a lot of dogs staying at the property over a long period of time. We had small children in our group and so playing with toys on the carpet we got covered in dog hair. We tried to use the vacuum cleaner which was in the property but that was not effective, likely that it needed its filter and bag changing but also when using it, it gave off a terrible smell like vomit so we had to open all the windows to get rid of it! The carpet just needs a jolly good washing. Overall we would likely stay here again and would recommend to others. Sykes themselves have significant communication issues, it’s impossible to get through to someone to talk to regarding our stay, despite resorting to the call back option, we still never achieved speaking to a customer representative. They tend to call back at the end of the day with 3 mins to go before their office closes so if you miss their call, because of the lengthy answer phone system, by the time you get through it, they’ve closed for the day. We ended up going in person to the old John bray offices in Rock as we have local knowledge from previous stays.

We have been there twice before and do enjoy it. The shower in the en-suite bathroom is sub standard though. Surely there must be a better solution as there isn’t generally enough hot water to use the bath (considering others).
