Tregillan Cottage in Rock, Cornwall, is praised for its spaciousness, bright interiors, and comfortable furnishings. The mature garden and estuary views add to its charm. Its location is ideal for exploring Cornwall and enjoying local amenities. While some maintenance issues were noted, the quick response to problems and the property's overall appeal have left guests eager to return.
Guests consistently described the property as clean and well-presented upon arrival, with one review specifically mentioning it was 'spotless'. This suggests a high standard of cleanliness is maintained.
The location is highly praised for its privacy, proximity to the cove, local shops, and eateries, as well as being a good base for exploring Cornwall. Views of the estuary and ease of access to walks and beaches are frequently mentioned positives.
The property is repeatedly described as comfortable, with spacious rooms and comfy beds. However, a few guests mentioned worn mattresses and a desire for better bed linen and towels, slightly affecting the comfort score.
Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and secure garden. Some guests reported issues with appliances and plumbing, but also noted prompt resolutions. Lack of instructions for appliances and a barbecue were minor drawbacks.
Guests appreciated the welcome flowers, indicating thoughtfulness. However, there is a lack of consistent provision of information books and local recommendations. While gifts are mentioned, they are not guaranteed and may vary with each stay.
Tregillan is a secluded and detached self-catering holiday home, tucked away in a quiet area of Rock, Cornwall. With a large and enclosed, south-facing garden and sun terrace, ideal for alfresco dining, and resting within walking distance of Porthilly Cove and Rock Beach, Tregillan offers a delightful base for a family of eight. With generous proportions, the kitchen and dining room are open-plan, lending a further sense of space and light; throw open the dining room doors to the terrace to invite the outside in, a lovely spot to sunbathe or read the papers, surrounded by pretty garden borders. The bedrooms catch a glimpse of the beautiful Camel Estuary waters and countryside beyond, selecting between four rooms, featuring king-size and twin set ups; a bathroom, shower room and cloakroom are available for convenience. Saunter down the lane to access the sandy beach; a short stroll across the sands brings you to the sailing club and Mariner's pub, with great food on offer from Nathan Outlaw and locally brewed Sharp's beer. Exercise yourself and your dog on Porthilly Beach with its stunning view of Padstow, a traditional fishing harbour and vibrant foodie destination; you can even catch the ferry over the water to explore the many shops and historic buildings found in the town. Get away from it all by walking upriver along the Camel estuary towards Gentle Jane; amble past the mussel and oyster beds and look out for cormorants, little egrets, swans, and oystercatchers. Rent a dinghy from the sailing school and sail serenely upriver with the tide, passing water-skiers, cyclists on the Camel Trail and the occasional fisherman, before returning home for sundowners. All of this awaits at Tregillan.
