About this property

Cider House is one of two sympathetically converted former cider barns, set in a beautifully peaceful rural location near the village of Hawkchurch, close to the Devon/Dorset border and within easy driving distance of the world‑famous Jurassic Coast. Sitting above a quiet valley and surrounded by rolling countryside, it offers a relaxed and scenic base for families, friends and couples looking to enjoy the very best of rural life with the coast close at hand. Dating back to the 15th century, this Grade II listed stone barn has been carefully restored to retain its original character while providing comfortable and practical holiday accommodation.

Exposed stonework and period features add to its charm, while modern furnishings create a welcoming space to unwind. The living room is a comfortable place to settle in after a day out exploring, with an electric woodburner providing warmth on cooler evenings. The kitchen and dining area are well arranged for shared meals and socialising, and are fully equipped for a relaxed, self‑catered stay. Cider House sleeps up to six guests across three bedrooms. On the ground floor, there is a twin bedroom with its own en‑suite shower room, providing flexible accommodation for couples, families or multi‑generational stays. On the first floor, there is a double bedroom along with a further twin bedroom.

These bedrooms are served by a family bathroom. A travel cot and highchair are available for guests travelling with young children. Outside, guests can enjoy a private seating area with garden furniture and a barbecue, ideal for dining al fresco while taking in the surrounding countryside. Children will enjoy the shared adventure playground, and guests are welcome to explore the owners’ 27 acres of grounds, which are rich in wildlife, including deer, foxes, owls and buzzards. Nearby fields are grazed by sheep and lambs, enhancing the tranquil rural atmosphere. Bike storage and private parking are provided, along with an electric vehicle charging point.

Although peacefully rural, Cider House is well placed for exploring the local area. The popular seaside town of Lyme Regis is close by, with its family-friendly sandy beach, the historic Cobb Harbour and a wide selection of cafés, pubs and restaurants. Charmouth, famous for its fossil‑rich beach and guided fossil hunting, is also nearby, along with other coastal favourites such as Beer, Branscombe and Sidmouth. Attractions including Beer Quarry Caves, the Seaton Tramway and the Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth are all within easy reach. Walkers will appreciate the numerous nearby footpaths, while horse riding is available locally at a neighbouring property (charges apply).

Hawkchurch itself has a traditional village pub and village shop just one mile away. A peaceful countryside retreat with character and space, Cider House offers easy access to the Jurassic Coast and the beautiful landscapes of Dorset, Devon and Somerset.

Hawkchurch is a village in Devon, England, 3 miles north east of Axminster on the border of Devon and Dorset, and about 6 miles south of Somerset. It is 4 miles north of the tourist and fishing village of Lyme Regis. Hawkchurch has a village shop which is run as a community venture. The village pub, The Old Inn, is a traditional coaching house and a hostelry which has been on the site since 1543. Nearby Axminster, which is one of Devon’s prettiest smaller towns, and has many attractions, including plenty of privately owned shops, a weekly market and excellent old inns, with one dating back 100 years with its own resident ghost! The seaside town of Lyme Regis has much to offer visitors with many craft and antique shops, galleries and cafes. The scenic coastal path offers excellent walking opportunities and spectacular views of the stunning Jurassic coast, whilst the gently shelving sands and sparkling waters of Lyme Bay provide the perfect place in which to relax and unwind. Where ever you decide, Hawkchurch is an ideal place to enjoy with easy access to many areas around Dorset and Devon at any time of the year.
