Tucked away down a very quiet country lane is this 16th-century Grade II listed thatched cottage. The property is one of a pair and has been completely renovated, offering some original features including inglenook fireplace, beams, historic bread oven and also very contemporary touches for today’s lifestyle.
The property is decorated and furnished to a very high standard, situated next door to the owner, but offering a very private setting. At the bottom of the lane is a small river with a ford across to the fields, and there is no through traffic. It lies close to Axminster, an unspoilt Devon market town situated on the River Axe, surrounded by stunning countryside and filled with charm and character. This attractive market town lies in the beautiful Axe Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasting quaint villages and unspoilt countryside. Famous for its carpets, the original Axminster factory was opened in 1755 by Thomas Whitty and authentic British ’Axminsters’ are still made in the town by Axminster Carpets. Situated a few miles inland from the Jurassic Coast, guests can visit towns such as Beer, Branscombe, Sidmouth and Seaton with its famous tramway.
Tucked in the south east corner of Devon, Axminster is an ideal touring centre for the neighbouring counties of Somerset and Dorset, with Lyme Regis and Charmouth just 6 miles away.
Celebrity chef and TV presenter Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall has his very first River Cottage Canteen and Deli (an organic produce shop/market and canteen) here, and his River Cottage HQ is nearby in the Axe valley. There are many places to visit close by including many NT properties. This is an ideal spot for walking with a footpath close to the property. The Yarty Valley is a very peaceful area and ideal for bird watching, cycling the country lanes or just relaxing on the patio enjoying views of the river. Shop and pub/restaurant 2 miles (1 mile via footpath).

The farmhouse is found down a winding lane in a beautiful, peaceful location. We enjoyed the walking paths from the cottage to the local farm shop and to the village of Dalwood for the most amazing Sunday lunch. The kitchen is very well equipped and we enjoyed eating both at the large dining table and outside on the patio. There was an electric vehicle charger that cost £20 for the week which we thought was extremely reasonable.

A really lovely place to stay, with beautiful Devon countryside literally on the doorstep. Good local amenities including beaches at Lyme Regis, Seaton and Sidmouth, and easy rail connection to Exeter. The access is via a classic Devon lane between deep hedges, and the lane, although with an asphalt surface, is quite badly potholed in places - all passable but requiring a bit of care. The house itself is very comfortable and offers plenty of room for six people in three bedrooms each with its own bathroom, two en suite and one just across the corridor. The staircase is quite steep so not easy for anyone with limited mobility, but overall it’s a really nice house with good views and very comfortable. The owners live next door and provide a lovely welcome pack including bread, eggs, cake and wine. We’ve stayed here twice, in the spring last year and this year, and have booked to go again next year. Highly recommended

Absolutely brilliant cottage fabulous location notwithstanding the long single track lane to get there. Probably the best cottage we have stayed in, so well equipped spacious and comfortable. John and Sue are lovely hosts and the welcome pack including Sue’s home made scones jam and clotted cream scrumptious. We enjoyed a brilliant Sunday lunch at The Tuckers Arms in Dalwood just a short drive away, and the coast on your doorstep, just spectacular.
