Old Highwood Barns is a delightful countryside escape tucked away in the rolling landscapes of the Blackdown Hills, East Devon. Perfect for families or small groups, this beautifully restored cottage sleeps up to five guests and offers a peaceful setting surrounded by fields, woodland, and wide open skies. Step inside and you’ll find a bright, welcoming living space that combines character with comfort. The kitchen is equipped with everything needed for easy self-catering, an oven, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and coffee maker while the dining area sets the scene for long, lazy breakfasts or evening meals together. After a day of exploring, unwind in the living area, where a TV and internet access provide entertainment for relaxed nights in.
The property features three well-presented bedrooms: a king-size, a flexible zip/link king-size that can be set up as twins, and a single. Each room comes with fresh linen and thoughtful touches to make you feel right at home. The family bathroom includes a walk-in shower, basin and WC, and there’s also a handy ground-floor cloakroom. Central heating keeps things warm through the colder months, and for those travelling with little ones, a travel cot and highchair are available. Step outside to the enclosed decked area, where a bubbling hot tub awaits under the open sky, perfect for relaxing after a countryside walk.
There’s outdoor furniture for dining or drinks, a barbecue for summer evenings, and off-road parking for added convenience. The local area offers plenty to enjoy. The market town of Honiton is easily reached for shops and eateries, while Exeter provides culture, history and vibrant city life. The Jurassic Coast makes for a fantastic day trip, and nearby attractions such as Yarak Birds of Prey, Diggerland, and The Bear Trail promise fun for all ages. With its scenic setting and homely charm, Old Highwood Barns is the perfect base for discovering the beauty of East Devon.
In the south of the peaceful Blackdown Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, ‘Old Dunkeswell’ is a typical Devon village with some Abbey ruins. ‘New Dunkeswell’ has a good general store, off licence and Post Office. The village is ideally placed for exploring the World Heritage site of the Jurassic Coast, the cathedral city of Exeter and the open moorland of Dartmoor and Exmoor.
