About this property

The Wheelhouse is a charming cottage situated within the Blackdown Hills, a Natural Landscape, in Beacon, Devon. Surrounded by lush countryside, this retreat is pet-friendly and offers beautiful views of rolling meadows and down the valley, making an idyllic escape for couples, small families, and even solo travellers. Upon entering The Wheelhouse, you will be greeted by an inviting open-plan area, thoughtfully designed to provide a seamless flow between the kitchen, dining, and sitting areas. The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you need to prepare delicious meals, which can be enjoyed at the dining table set for three. After dinner, retire to the sitting area where a Smart TV awaits for a relaxing evening in. When it's time to rest, the property boasts a welcoming double bedroom where you can catch some rest. Back on the ground floor, you'll find a sleek shower room, complete with a walk-in shower and toasty heated towel rail, providing a refreshing space to prepare for the day ahead. Step outside to discover your private, east-facing garden; here, you can enjoy a morning coffee on the patio while admiring the views or plan a barbecue on a sunny afternoon. The garden also provides access to the owners meadows, offering a tranquil spot to unwind amidst nature. Make the most of your location by exploring the East Devon National Landscape, where walking, wildlife spotting and photography opportunities abound. From the doorstep, there are more than four walks to enjoy at your own pace, or you can hop onto your bikes or visit some of the nearby gardens and stately homes in the area. A visit to Axe Valley Wildlife Park allows a fantastic chance to observe a collection of animals in beautiful surroundings, while the Smeatharpe Stadium frequently hosts exciting motorsport fixtures sure to thrill all ages. Step back in time and explore the stories and legends around Castle Neroche, an ancient fort offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. On a sunny afternoon, take a leisurely walk around the stunningly landscaped Burrow Farm Gardens, beautifully supported by the National Trust's Quarts Moor, a haven for wildlife and nature. Round off a day of exploration by immersing yourself in local history at the charming All Hallows Museum of Honiton, home to an array of intriguing exhibits. Slightly further afield is Devon's magnificent coast, where you can explore the historic and popular Lyme Regis, or wander the many delightful seaside towns and villages. As the golden sun sets on another wonderful day, retreat to the comfort and tranquillity of The Wheelhouse, your perfect gateway to the delights of Devon.

Situated in the heart of the Blackdown Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Devon/Somerset border lies the village of Yarcombe. Home to a hotel with a pub and restaurant, and a local post office, the village is also brimming with heritage, with its historical Norman church, old inn with monastical roots, village hall and cluster of houses, but its many outlying farms and hamlets make Yarcombe a large parish with a very active community. With wonderful fields, hedgerows, woodlands, and isolated farmsteads this is rural living at its best. For attractions, travel up to Castle Neroche National Forest with expansive hiking and equestrian trails to follow, or travel south to Axe Valley Wildlife Park, a firm family favourite, home to a whole host of animals. The coastline can be reached via a short drive, arriving at Seaton Wetlands for a nature-filled trek, climb up to Hooken Cliffs for the best vantage point, or tour Beer Quarry Caves, offering daily underground tours of the vaulted caves, whilst enjoying the delights of the Jurassic Coastline.
