Guests say

East Bickleigh is a well-received cottage in Devon, praised for its spaciousness, well-equipped kitchen, and on-site swimming pool and games room. Guests have enjoyed the property's rural charm, the convenience of its location, and the thoughtful touches from the owners. While some maintenance issues and cleanliness concerns have been noted, the overall experience has been positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Reviews indicate a mix of experiences regarding cleanliness. Some guests found the property to be clean and well-maintained, while others reported issues with cobwebs, dirty kitchen items, and general housekeeping. The presence of both positive and negative feedback suggests that cleanliness is somewhat inconsistent.

The location of the property is highly praised for its proximity to local towns, beaches, and the countryside. Guests appreciate the rural setting and the convenience it offers for exploring South Devon, making it an ideal base for holidaymakers.

Comfort levels are generally regarded as good, with guests finding the beds comfortable and the property spacious. However, some guests mentioned issues with tiny bathrooms, dark lounges, and overheating due to underfloor heating, which suggests room for improvement in this area.

Facilities like the swimming pool, games room, and well-equipped kitchen are highlights for many guests. Nonetheless, there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as loose door handles, broken cupboard doors, and safety concerns in the games room, indicating that while facilities are appreciated, they require better upkeep.

The owners' thoughtfulness is noted in several reviews, with mentions of a welcoming chocolate cake and milk. While these gestures are appreciated, it is important to note that such personal touches may vary and are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

East Bickleigh is one of two cottages converted from a farmhouse dating from the 1600s. Comfortable and characterful with all the brilliant farm facilities to share, it is ideal accommodation for a family of any age. The sitting room is full of charming traditional features like the wood floor with cosy rugs, beams and a wood burning stove in the fireplace to snuggle up beside. The kitchen is well equipped with modern conveniences for cooking meals to enjoy in the dining area in the sitting room, and your eye will be drawn to the sunny French windows and the fascinating old well which has now been safely covered with glass as an interesting and historic feature. Head on upstairs to bed in the three comfortable bedrooms, all en suite with a huge Victorian bath off the twin and French windows off the family room. Outside is the farm to wander and the shared pool and games, and you also have your own patio with barbecue up steps for enjoying the peace. Note: This property is on the same farm as The Roundhouse 976196, Oak Tree 976220, The Hay Barn 976197 and Swallows Reach 976144; it can be booked with Oak Tree, with which it shares interconnecting doors, and together they sleep 12.

Unfortunately our neighbours were a large party who partied through to the early hours making lots of noise. The property requires some general maintenance ie, door knobs come off in your hand. Family room shower leaks through to kitchen. Despite these issues our grandchildren enjoyed their time swimming in the pool. The bed linen was crisp and clean and beds very comfortable. Extractor fan in kitchen very greasy. We think the property would benefit from a tidy up in the garden too. Recycling bins and wheelie bins were not secluded in bin store. Overall just lots of little niggly issues we still enjoyed our time together

Which is so good especially with dogs and not far from beaches/ green areas. I feel the pictures on the site are a little misleading as it looks like you are getting the whole house up the drive, actually it Is split into two separate properties. Maybe this needs to be updated. Plenty of parking enough for 3-4 cars which was perfect. Swimming pool was a little cool but was fine for a quick splash around the sitting areas around the pool could have been a little cleaner. In the property most of the door handles are hanging off which is a worry with children incase of them being accidentally locked in bathrooms. This needs to be looked at, the kitchen door did not close properly also. The whole house was a little dirty there were cobwebs and dog hairs on the stairs (not from our dogs as they do not go up stairs) and the stair gate downstairs was a little worse for wear needs a lock probably with little children. Cot was provided but not able to use as it was quite rickety and not sure how safe it was, maybe a travel cot would be better in there. Kitchen well packed with everything you need! Thank you so much for leaving us cake and milk it was muchly appreciated!!!

The underfloor heating provides a lovely warm atmosphere and we needed to turn it down a bit. Getting Netflix on the telly was a bonus. Some maintenance is needed especially door and cupboard handles which can come off in your hand. Hooks to hang your coats on inside the property would be nice, had to put them over the chairs. We did notice drips from the ceiling in the kitchen when the shower in the family room was used, needs to be looked at. In the twin bedded room difficult to have a shower as only a hand held is supplied and no curtain. Overall, yes a few niggles but we all had a really nice stay and made good use of the pool and games room. Providing a cake and milk was a nice touch and much appreciated.
