...with a very attractive outlook and lots of varieties of bird. We did not find there were many places to walk within the vicinity of the lodge - a shortish walk through woods but otherwise just on the very narrow roads, so not ideal for walking. In our view, a car is essential as it is some distance to the beach and to access other main routes - and the roads are not really safe for walking as they are very narrow. The lodge is very well equipped with everything you will need - hairdryer, ironing board and iron, washer/dryer, dishwasher, DVD player, etc., and sundry kitchen equipment - peeler, colander, grater, etc. You might like to take a sharp knife. There is no mobile connection. There is a landline so you may feel it a good idea to ask for the number in order for family and friends to be able to make contact with you at the lodge in the event of an emergency. We went to the Start Bay Inn for lunch one day and had some very good fish and chips. The Queen's Arms in Slapton Village is friendly and the meals reasonably good - there is a garden. Children may enjoy Woodlands Leisure Park - our grandchildren did, also Dartmouth Castle. Dartmouth is attractive and we regretted we didn't have enough time to go on one of the boat trips which look very good. Totnes Castle may interest some people but it is basically just a shell. Salcombe is attractive and a short ferry ride can take you across to a sandy beach on the other side. Blackpool Sands (near Dartmouth) is clean (no dogs) and has an attractive backdrop of hills. There is an £8 car parking charge. Several other beaches in the area, including Slapton Sands (which we liked - it is clean and quiet) allow dogs. Submitted by Esther on 07/08/2017

...than the advertisment. The property is stunning and perfect for the quiet family break. The welcome was warm and the local folk were amazing. The roads to and from Gara Mill are a little scary and more specific information on the local roads and parking at the site would have been appreciated. If you are taking a large family vehicle or anything not of a 4 wheel drive design, please be aware the roads are narrow, the hills are steep and the corners are long. All in all, loved Gara Mill, loved Devon and Blackpool Sands is something that everyone must see in their life time. Will return again for sure. Thank you. Submitted by Richard on 15/08/2016

...lodge. The lodge was of a very high standard and very modern with everything you could possibly need. It was great having two bathrooms, both with excellent showers. This particular lodge is very private and the terrace is not overlooked by anybody else. The park is lovely and quiet and as there is no mobile signal you're not bothered by mobiles ringing and beeping all the time! The surroundings are beautiful with lots of birds and squirrels visiting. The entrance to the park and the lodge is a bit tight but we managed with our Audi estate but not sure how a wider people carrier would manage! The lodge benefits from a landline telephone to use in case of emergencies which is very handy. We will definatley be returning soon. Submitted by Donna on 22/05/2016
