I make that assessment based on the broken glass and outdoor lights on the patio, a broken dishwasher (which we were warned about) left full of water, a plastic bag of frozen dog food in the freezer and tonnes of dog hairs all over the property. Add to that the fact the heated indoor pool was ‘out of action’ (a pre-condition for booking the property) and it makes for disappointment. I think Sykes probably needs to review the ‘4 tick status’. On the plus side, the location and grounds are peaceful and beautiful, the property is well equipped (the dishwasher got fixed on day-5), has loads of character and the outside pool / patio area are brilliant in the sunshine.

The apartment was lovely, clean with everything needed. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and lovely views to the garden. There were some maintenance issues, but as we did not report them, during our stay, we did not let them worry us. The shower did not drain water away, which was not hygienic, but there was a second bathroom if you wanted to avoid it. There was some broken glass on the patio by the lounge area (three outside spaces at the property in total). We think there had been some broken outdoor lights that had not been cleared up. Hence the outside lighting was not working. The space outside the bedroom had two old and dirty chairs and could have been made more inviting. The indoor swimming pool was closed for maintenance and the area where the sauna was had what looked like a condemned hot tub and it all looked a bit sad. It was a shame as I can imagine that it was once a good facility. We did not use the outdoor pool (although others on site did) as the weather was not great and the plastic sunbeds around the pool were very dirty. We might have wiped them over ourselves though if the weather had been better. The property was difficult to find and it took us a few days to get used to the roads. There was a road closure during our stay to the main route to the property, which did make it more complicated, but we eventually found alternative routes. The gardens on site were lovely though and well maintained. We found local beaches and towns which were all lovely.

It was very clean and very well equipped with everything one can want for a holiday. The grounds are beautiful and maintained to a high standard and it was a delightful looking at them every morning through the leaded large sitting room window. There is a large outdoor pool which is quite warm and very clean and a tennis court so plenty to do. There is enough to have a good walk around the ground with the two dogs who were with us. The TV had Netflix and all the channels one could want. Thank you to the hosts who had thought of most things to make our stay comfortable. Minus: Although the indoor pool is on all the advertisements, it was not in operation. We were only told this after we had paid the first deposit which I do not think is fair. The dishwasher had trouble draining and the TV was not logged in but I was with an engineer so we sorted that out and the TV of our neighbours who wanted to watch the Wimbledon final! On the first days we let our dogs into the pool enclosure as we were alone. We did not allow them to go in the pool just to sit on the side. A man came and told us off without introducing himself which I felt was quite rude. We had read the guest book and did not know this but complied from them on. The property although absolutely beautiful is not particularly child or pet friendly. There are two dangerous ponds and we had to fish out one of the dogs who got a bit trapped. We did not have young children so not an issue for us and we were with the dogs all the time. It is also not partially suitable if you have mobility issues as the grounds as all on a steep slope and there are lots of stairs to negotiate. Again this was not an issue for us. I would stay there again but I would want the indoor pool to be functional. Thank you.
