Guests say

Cowslip Barn is consistently praised for its idyllic location, cleanliness, and comfort. Guests enjoyed the local walks, the proximity to Totnes, and the welcoming atmosphere, including a thoughtful welcome pack. The property is well-maintained, though there was a minor issue with the oven and garden maintenance timing.

Guests have described the property as very clean and well presented, indicating high standards of cleanliness throughout their stay.

The property is lauded for its tranquil village setting and idyllic Devonshire location, with easy access to local walks and a short drive to Totnes. The challenging local roads are noted, but do not detract significantly from the overall positive experience.

Reviewers have highlighted the comfort of the property, mentioning comfy beds and a well-presented, beautiful property that met all their wishes for a comfortable stay.

The property is well-equipped with games and DVDs, and is maintained by proactive owners. However, there was a mention of an oven not working properly, which suggests a slight deduction for facilities and maintenance.

The mention of a lovely welcome pack suggests the owners are thoughtful in their hospitality. While such gestures are appreciated, they are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Dittisham 2.6 miles. Resting rurally in Cornworthy, a chocolate box village near Dittisham in Devon is Cowslip Barn, a characterful, 18th-century barn conversion. Sympathetically-restored throughout, featuring exposed, A-framed beams and stonework, Cowslip Barn offers a countryside setting for a family of six and a furry companion, well-positioned near the coast and within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Travel down the country lane and through the private driveway, reaching your new, stone-fronted abode. Step indoors to be wowed by the open-plan living space, complete with a fully-equipped, country-style kitchen with breakfast bar, a lofty dining table for formal affairs, and plush, leather sofas to lounge upon with the woodburning stove in the backdrop.

Use this space as your social hub before heading outdoors to bask in your surroundings, where you'll find a private, lawned garden with patio and furniture. As day turns into night, head down to the lower-ground-floor to locate three well-appointed bedrooms; select between a king-size with TV and en-suite, a further king-size, and a twin, serviced by a sleek bathroom. Enjoy a fresh morning coffee before preparing to explore the area, where find three great pubs within walking distance of your lodgings: The Hunters Lodge Inn in Cornworthy, a short walk from your new home; The Maltsters Arms in Tuckenhay; and the The Waterman's Arms located slightly further along the Harbourne River.

Head to Dittisham for your local amenities, before reaching Dartmouth and its lovely, riverfront position; here you can tour Dartmouth Museum, hike towards Dartmouth Castle, traverse the National Trust nature reserve of Little Dartmouth, or enjoy a beach day at Blackpool Sands, where you can also join the South West Coast Path. Travel inland to Totnes, with the chance to trek up to Totnes Castle and tour its remains, or visit the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm, a family favourite, before dining out at the Waterside Bistro in Devon, serving delicious local produce and tapas. Further attractions to add to your itinerary include visits to Woodlands Theme Park, perfect for younger family members; Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, strolls along Paignton Pier with a bag of fish and chips in hand, or hikes across Cockington Country Park, before reaching the imposing, Tudor mansion of Berry Pomeroy Castle, enveloped by woodland walks.

A day trip spent sampling some award-winning vintages from Sharpham's Vineyard in nearby Stoke Gabriel after a few hours traversing the beautiful landscapes of the River Dart Country Park is a must whilst you're in the region. Escape to rural Devon at Cowslip Barn.

Dittisham, a charming village in the South Hams situated on the banks of the River Dart and surrounded by open farmland, is a popular tourist destination. Walk until you reach the waterfront amid the peaceful alleyways surrounded with charming stone homes and lush gardens. The quayside in Dittisham is frequently thought of as the centre of the community. Lunch at the Anchorstone Café is a great way to enjoy the breath-taking river views. On the dinghy pontoon, try your hand at some crab-catching with the youngsters, before visiting the FBI, as it is locally known, the famous pink Ferry Boat Inn.

The cottage is perfectly situated in the charming village of Cornworthy with a nice country pub and a short distance from many attractive places such as Dartmouth.

This is the epitome of Devonshire living and everything that I imagined it would be. There are so many lovely walks on the doorstep and locally, which our dogs enjoyed immensely. The towns and coast are not too far away either. My son joined us later in the week and the train connection from London Paddington to Totnes was just perfect for bringing our family together. I would highly recommend Cowslip Barn.

Lots of games and dvd’s to keep you entertained. There are just a couple of things that are not great and that is the roads are quite difficult in and out of the village, we would not have attempted these roads at night!! Also, I have raised issues with the oven which is not working properly. This caused an issue with cooking meals during the stay.
