Guests say

Toad Hall Cottage in Devon is a quaint and characterful property that offers a peaceful rural retreat. Guests appreciate its charm, cosy atmosphere, and the enclosed garden, which is ideal for dogs. The location is central for exploring South Devon, with friendly neighbours and local eateries adding to the experience. Some guests noted issues with cleanliness and maintenance, but the attentive owner and the cottage's unique features generally leave a positive impression.

Reviews indicate a generally clean environment, though some guests mentioned the need for more thorough cleaning in specific areas, such as kitchen appliances and cutlery drawers. The majority did not raise cleanliness as a major concern.

The cottage's location is highly praised for its tranquillity and proximity to local attractions. Guests enjoy the rural setting and find it a good base for exploring the South Hams, despite some finding the Devon lanes challenging to navigate.

Guests find the cottage cosy and comfortable, particularly highlighting the comfortable bed and the log burner. However, some guests reported issues with cold and dampness, and difficulties with the television and hob.

The property is well-equipped for a pleasant stay, but several guests encountered issues with the television, induction hob, and electrics. The owner's responsiveness to these issues is noted, but the frequency of such comments suggests room for improvement in maintenance.

While guests mention the owner's attentiveness and the provision of directions and local recommendations, there is insufficient information regarding gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness. Therefore, a score cannot be provided.

Couldn't get the heating to work and the George Inn wasn't open on Monday evening as your guide book suggested. Very minor points but overall our stay was everything we wanted!

  • Trevor

We had some really good walks and the weather couldn’t have been better.

Arrived Friday evening after struggling to find cottage, left 9 o'clock next morning. Only stayed the night because of 360 mile drive home. Advert stated END OF LANE ON LEFT. The "Lane" was actually a converted farm yard. Our cottage was a badly converted Pigsty/cattle shed. The interior was in desperate need of renovation. All furniture looked as if it had come from a reclamation center. "Four poster bed " was a joke. The mattress was lumpy and obviously very old. The so called shower was disgusting as was the floor. Wood panel beside sink coming off. Stayed just one night. Very expensive lesson learnt.
