About this property

Holsworthy 0.7 miles. Originally a Devon longhouse, this charming 17th century semi-detached cottage oozes character and is situated in a sheltered location in the quiet hamlet of Derriton, near the market town of Holsworthy. The features of this cosy and homely cottage near Holsworthy include exposed beams, very low ceilings in parts, slanting floors, a woodburning stove set within a feature fireplace and a large and eclectic selection of books and records. This Holsworthy cottage will appeal to those wishing for a quiet retreat in the beautiful Devon countryside, but not that far from the dramatic North Cornwall coastline around Bude, long stretches of which are owned by the National Trust and provide fabulous walks. This Holsworthy cottage has a sitting room, dining room with piano, and kitchen, plus the benefit of a sunny ground floor room with double bed and doors opening onto the rear garden. There are three bedrooms upstairs plus a bathroom, but mind your head - guests need to duck on entering due to the low ceiling beam, another character feature of this charming Holsworthy cottage. The pretty, enclosed cottage garden is bursting with roses, herbs and shrubs, and has a patio for relaxing in the sunshine whilst planning the next day out. Holsworthy is a pleasant market town with a well-known quality supermarket, one of the largest weekly cattle markets in the south west, local shops owned and run by residents and a very friendly golf club open to non-members. Holsworthy is in an area known as Ruby Country, with its own trail passing through the tranquil undiscovered North Devon countryside, geared for horse riders, fishermen, walkers, runners and cyclists. Here there are some of the darkest night skies in the UK, perfect for stargazing. The beaches around Bude are only a 15 minute drive from this Holsworthy cottage and have been voted as some of the best in England thanks to their clean golden sands and friendly seas. Stay in this Holsworthy cottage and you will have the best of Devon and Cornwall, and the best of coast and country.

Holsworthy is a market town in Devon, in the lush greenery of Tarka country. Holsworthy has a selection of shops and pubs, a park and swimming pool, 18-hole golf course and plenty of fishing, cycling and walking in the surrounding countryside. Holsworthy is within easy reach of the sandy beaches at Bude, or the moors of Bodmin, Exmoor or Dartmoor.

The cottage was spacious, comfortable and felt like a home from home experience. It was well equipped with kitchen necessities and we arrived to some beautiful home baked scones with clotted cream and jam, which was extremely welcoming. There were plenty of towels and lovely blankets on the beds that we could cosy under on the sofas in the evenings. The children loved the fact that there was a Wii at the property and enjoyed playing this at the end of a busy day out. My only regret was that we didn't stay longer in order to explore the extensive record collection. It was a perfect base to explore the surrounding areas like Bude, Boscastle and Tintagel. Loved the fact there was a piano at the property also, which my girls, and husband enjoyed playing daily. We will definitely come back here. Not forgetting the beautiful spacious gardens, where the girls enjoyed playing. This was a beautiful bonus to the property. Thanks for a lovely stay and we will see you again soon!

The children love the size of the house, seven of us plenty of space. The kids played hide and seek all week. The welcoming feeling of this cottage is wonderful. The owners are lovely people and very helpful. Can’t say how much we love this cottage.. very central for Cornwall and Devon. Excellent location. Would definitely stay here again.

It also stayed cool in the heatwave which was welcome. A massive record collection for those who like vinyl and plenty of books too The property was clean enough to be healthy without being so spotless that you couldn't relax. Some of the beauty spots required a bit of driving, but no doubt that is reflected in the price.
