Winkleigh is a pretty Devon village overlooking the Taw and Torridge rivers with sweeping views of rolling Devon countryside. At its heart is The Old Parsonage, a five-bedroom thatched self-catering cottage sleeping ten people that is ideal for families or friends. The holiday home is a short walk from the village pub, cafe and shop, ten miles from Dartmoor National Park and 12 miles from the cathedral city of Exeter. You can reach Croyde, Woolacombe, and beaches on the north coast of Devon in under an hour, and there are lots of activities and attractions to enjoy in all seasons. 

The Old Parsonage is a character-filled family holiday home in the Devon village of Winkleigh. Close to the village church and only a short walk from a shop, cafe, and The Kings Arms pub, it sleeps ten people in five bedrooms and is child and dog-friendly. The owners have sympathetically restored the cottage to retain original features like the thatched roof, inglenook fireplace, and hand-hewn oak beams while bringing it into the 21st Century with efficient heating, comfortable furnishings and WiFi.

Winkleigh is a friendly village with fantastic views thanks to its elevated position above the Taw and Torridge rivers. It's perfect for a group that enjoys long walks through the countryside and woodland and along rural lanes lined with vibrant hedgerows. Winkleigh is only ten miles from Dartmoor National Park, with even more opportunities to get outdoors and explore on foot, horseback, and mountain bike. Even a gentle stroll around the village is a joy. The Winkleigh Heritage Trail passes the sites of Croft Castle and Court Castle, the former with some stone remains and the latter an earthen mound landscaped by Georgians into tranquil gardens. Slightly outside the village, Winkleigh Airfield played an essential role in defending coastal towns and cities and providing support to troops in France during wwii.

There is lots to keep everyone happy when you book a holiday at The Old Parsonage. Children will appreciate being within an hour's drive of attractions like Diggerland, Okehampton and Crealy Theme Parks, the BIG Sheep, and the Milky Way Adventure Park. Go surfing in Croyde, and discover the magic of Tintagel and the witchy mystery of Boscastle. The cathedral city of Exeter is 22 miles from Winkleigh, and you're surrounded by rolling Devon countryside with charming villages, friendly country pubs, and scenic views.

The Old Parsonage is wonderfully welcoming all year round. Stay for a week or two, or escape for a long weekend in autumn or winter. For larger groups wishing to holiday together Grooms Cottage next door sleeps an additional four guests.

The Old Parsonage is a traditional thatched cottage with sweeping views.

Downstairs:

Unusually, but conveniently for those with muddy feet and dogs, entry is via the utility and boot room. Hang your coat to dry and throw muddy walking trousers straight into the washing machine. There's also a cloakroom with a WC and a handbasin.

Internal walls have been removed to create a long, light-filled dining room with seating for ten plus a smaller table for children. French doors open into the garden.

The country kitchen is warm and welcoming, with a working AGA at its heart. Slate floors, a modern oven and stove, and extras like a coffee machine make it a lovely place to cook delicious meals for family and friends.

An original inglenook fireplace with a log burner, solid oak beams and comfortable seating make the living room the perfect place to relax and watch the Smart TV after a day out.

Upstairs:

All bedrooms are on the upper floor. Bedroom One is the largest and has a king-sized bed with ample storage.

Two bedrooms are furnished with double beds and clothes storage to let you unpack and settle in.

Bedroom Four is at the front of the house with a superking (6ft-wide) bed, bedside tables and storage. Beds are made up for your arrival and bath towels are included.

The remaining bedroom is perfect for younger guests as it features child-sized bunk beds.

One bathroom has a bath, shower, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: The gardens are shared with the owners who live in another house on the site, as is the parking. There is a lawn, seating, mature trees and a path leading to the church.

Additional Information: Bed linen, bath towels, WiFi, utilities, and an initial supply of wood for the log burner are included. Smoking is not permitted. Pets welcome by arrangement.
