Welcome to Carey Meadows, a charming countryside retreat adjoining the owners’ home, nestled amidst rolling green hills, farmland, and woodland teeming with wildlife. Located in a hamlet close to the picturesque village of Ashwater, this spacious, single-level haven offers the perfect base for exploring Devon’s stunning landscapes or simply unwinding in comfort.
Step inside and discover a beautifully designed living and dining area, where a plush corner sofa invites you to relax by the warmth of a wood-burning stove. A separate snug provides a cosy nook with a delightful mural—ideal for quiet reading, board games, or simply unwinding after a day of adventure. The well-equipped kitchen features everything you need to cook up a storm.
The three thoughtfully furnished bedrooms are all dressed in red and white linens. Bedroom one has a king-size bed, TV, and a stylish private en-suite with a large shower. Bedroom two has a king-size bed and features a stunning countryside mural, ensuring a restful stay for all. The third offers twin beds which can be zip-locked together. The family bathroom includes a large bathtub and a separate shower enclosure, perfect for a relaxing soak after a day of exploring. Step outside to an elevated garden space with seating, perfect for al fresco dining.
Ashwater boasts a welcoming community shop and a traditional country pub set on the village green. Adding to its rustic charm is a lovely church. The property is close to the water sports centre at Roadford Lake, where sailing and windsurfing can be enjoyed. There are several opportunities for coarse fishing.
It is just 17 miles from the breathtaking North Cornish coast with many beaches, excellent surfing, pretty coves and dramatic coastal walks. There are several golden beaches along the coast, especially in the bustling town of Bude. Widemouth Bay is less than 20 miles away, where you’ll find surfing, coastal walks, and charming seaside cafés.
The market towns of Okehampton and Launceston, with their historic castles, are a short drive away. For those craving adventure, Dartmoor National Park offers vast moorlands, dramatic rock formations, and ancient relics to explore. In the other direction, Bodmin Moor and Jamaica Inn are not far away.
For those wanting larger towns, Bideford, Barnstable, Portsmouth, and Exeter are all within an hour’s drive.

We (2 families/friends) have just returned from Carey Meadows after the most wonderful week's stay. If you want somewhere spacious to stay as a base to explore everything Devon and Cornwall has to offer, this home is absolutely ideal. Equally, if you want somewhere to simply relax and unwind, then this is where you need to be. We chose to be out every day seeing and visiting as many places as possible, but to be honest, the option to have simply "stayed in" at the property would have been absolutely bliss. The home (which is what it is) was spotlessly clean, has the most serene atmosphere and has everything and more you could ever ask for. Having the most wonderful hosts (living next door) to offer information and help if needed, was an added bonus. We will miss watching the birds out the window whilst having breakfast, and so very much look forward to returning again to this little slice of heaven 😀
