The property is lauded for its idyllic and private woodland location, offering peace and proximity to nature, with easy access to local attractions and walks.

The comfort of the hut is highly rated, with guests finding it cosy and well-equipped. However, a few mentioned the bed comfort and light intrusion, slightly affecting the score.

About this property

About three miles from the village of Gunnislake, surrounded by serene woodland, is Rock View Shepherd's Hut. This beautiful retreat is set within broad-leafed woodland, close to Wheal Josiah, the now abandoned, but former richest copper mine in Europe. Wander through this lovely land towards the hut and step up into the romantic studio accommodation. On your left sits a lovely dining area, which can be transformed into a cosy double bed come night-time. Perfect for two adults. With no TV or WiFi, this really is a relaxing retreat for you and your other half to get away from it all. A compact yet nicely appointed kitchen also comes nearby, while the layout benefits charmingly from a woodburning stove and a flutter of delightful copper features indicating the copper mine grounds that the property rests on. Completing this unique bolthole is a fresh white shower room. Outside is a private woodland garden with a table, chairs and a fire pit - an idyllic spot to unwind. Also for your enjoyment a private wood-fired hot tub for two.

Beyond the garden are acres of woodland and the Tamar Trails activity centre for walking and cycling, which is around a 20-minute walk away. Nearby are the historic market town of Tavistock, the National Trust's Cotehele House, Buckland Abbey and Morwellham Quay, the location of the BBC's Edwardian Farm. Further afield, Plymouth has shops, theatres, the National Marine Aquarium and historic Barbican. Rock View Shepherd’s Hut is a peaceful and picturesque retreat where you can choose to do as little or as much as you wish.

A delightful award-winning market town on the River Tavy, nestling in the South West slopes of Dartmoor. Tavistock has an indoor pannier market, a diverse range of shops, an excellent choice of pubs, bistros, restaurants, a theatre and a cinema, as well as a leisure pool.

Hot tub was fab. Owners were helpful and happy. All in all a great experience, will return and recomend.

Facilities great. However the bed is really uncomfortable, duvet was short for my husband and the pillows were past their best. At night we were disturbed as the smoke detector and carbon monoxide detectors flashed all the time and we had light coming in from the lights under the hut and early morning sun due to blinds not meeting at the doors. In the summer this must be a real problem. Could do with a mirror near plugs for hair drying. The setting of the hut is lovely and the hot tub is a nice touch. Great part of Devon
