Rectory Coach House receives high praise for its immaculate cleanliness, peaceful village location, and well-equipped, comfortable interiors. Guests consistently highlight the warm and welcoming hosts, the thoughtful touches on arrival, and the excellent proximity to local attractions and a good pub. While a few minor issues are mentioned, such as firm beds and limited crockery, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, making it a highly recommended choice for a relaxing Dorset getaway.
Cleanliness is frequently described as immaculate, spotless, and very clean on arrival. Only one or two minor comments suggest room for improvement, but the overwhelming majority of reviews are extremely positive.
The location is widely praised for its tranquillity, beautiful countryside setting, and convenience for exploring Dorset and neighbouring counties. The proximity to a good local pub is also a recurring highlight.
Most guests find the cottage very comfortable, with several noting restful stays and good beds. However, a small number of guests found the beds too firm or uncomfortable, which slightly lowers the score.
The property is described as very well equipped and maintained, with only occasional suggestions for more crockery, larger towels, or minor kitchen items. Overall, guests are very satisfied with the facilities provided.
Many guests mention thoughtful touches such as welcome baskets with tea, coffee, wine, and treats, as well as helpful and friendly hosts. Please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.
Found in the pretty village of Buckhorn Weston, on the borders of Dorset and Somerset, this lovely, semi-detached holiday cottage is located within the grounds of a magnificent Victorian rectory, now the owner's home, dating back to 1861. The cottage was once the coach house used to stable the horses, carriage and groom that the Rector and his family required, and has now been converted into a stylish, modern 'carbon neutral' holiday cottage, with solar panels providing all electricity. Inside, the well-equipped kitchen provides you with everything you need to prepare delicious meals for your group, whilst the oak-floored sitting room has a wall-mounted, flame-effect fire and opens out onto a private enclosed patio, where you can enjoy alfresco dining as you discuss your day's adventures.
Upstairs are two good-size bedrooms, with fine views across the surrounding countryside from the master bedroom. This lovely cottage provides all the comforts of home, plus the peace and tranquillity of a rural escape. After a major refurbishment the Stapleford Arms Public House is now open, this delightful village pub is a 2 minute walk from the Rectory Coach House. There is also a children's play area on the village green and plenty to see and do within an easy drive of the cottage. Explore the amazing Wookey Hole caves in Wells and experience a tour around the largest and most stunning show-caves in England, beautifully lit up with amazing lighting along with a host of many other great attractions including a live circus, a mirror maze, a cave museum and even animatronic dinosaurs!
Enjoy a day trip to Bath where you can find one of the greatest religious spas of the ancient world tucked away in this lively city, the Roman Baths, a must-see for history fanatics and while you’re in the area, visit Cheddar Gorge, a deep limestone ravine resting in the Mendip Hills where Britain’s oldest complete human skeleton – Cheddar Man – estimated to be 9,000 years old, was found in 1903. Closer to home is the Haynes International Motor Museum in Yeovil for car enthusiasts, as well as the Fleet Air Arm Museum, home to a huge military and civilian aeroplane collection and an interactive exhibit.
On the other side of the Cranborne Chase AONB is the incredible Salisbury Cathedral that has a clock dating from 1386 and is home to the Magna Carta, whilst the iconic and legendary Stonehenge lies just north of Salisbury. Head south towards the coast and find the exciting Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre in Bovington where visitors can view rescued and endangered primates in this open-air animal park. Wincanton Racecourse can provide an exciting day out, or if you like golf, then try out the Wincanton Golf Club 9-hole course set in the lovely Somerset countryside. Continue your exploration south by visiting one of the gorgeous beaches, choose from Bournemouth, Lyme Regis or Weymouth, each with a fabulous array of amenities and long stretches of picturesque sands.

There were four adults and we coped well with just the bathroom and downstairs loo. The shelf from the sink over the cistern in the bathroom is lovely and big meaning that everyone could leave there ablution kits there. We used the cottage as a base for visiting sites in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, these included Tyneham (ghost village) (75 mins), Brownsea island (60 mins), Salisbury (50 mins), Stonehenge (35 mins), Shaftesbury (20 mins) and Stourhead N.T. (18 mins).

The coach house is conveniently placed to visit lots of attractions (donât miss Haynes Motor Museum as it is excellent) yet it is in the countryside. There is an excellent pub with good menu with in a couple of minutes walk. The property is kept very clean with all the basic tools you need to cook a meal, however you will need to take other items such as salt, pepper, foil, cling film, kitchen roll and the like. A welcome pint of milk was left in the fridge along with a packet of biscuits and sachets of tea and coffee. The dinner service is in need of replacement but this is a small thing in otherwise excellent accommodation. Wi Fi is good. We would like to visit again if the property is available.

The cottage is situated in a pretty little village and offers easy access to tourist attractions all over the county and is within a few minutes walk of the village pub with great food options. A big 'thank you' to the owners for making us feel so comfortable and for the 'treats' on arrival.
