Hambury House is a spacious and well-equipped cottage in a fantastic location, just a short walk from Lulworth Cove and local amenities. Guests consistently praise the size, comfort, and homely feel of the property, as well as the well-stocked kitchen and convenient parking. The house is ideal for families and groups, offering a welcoming base for exploring the Jurassic Coast. While some minor maintenance and cleanliness issues are noted, these do not detract from the overall positive experience. Many guests express a desire to return and recommend the property to others.

Most guests found the property clean and comfortable, though several mentioned areas needing extra attention, such as bathrooms, shower heads, and the cooker. These comments suggest generally good standards with occasional lapses.

The location is highly praised, with guests loving the proximity to Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, local shops, and pubs. The setting is described as beautiful and convenient for walks and exploring the area.

Guests appreciate the spaciousness and homely atmosphere, with comfortable beds and a cosy feel. However, several reviews mention that the lounge sofas are tired and uncomfortable, which slightly impacts the overall comfort.

The cottage is described as very well-equipped, especially the kitchen, with ample utensils and appliances. Parking, garden, and utility facilities are also praised. Minor maintenance issues, such as plumbing and worn furniture, are noted but do not overshadow the positive feedback.

Guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as a Christmas tree and responsive property management. Please note that such gestures are not guaranteed for every stay.

The property has been tastefully designed to delicately incorporate traditional features such as a thatched roof and wooden ceiling beams into the build, whilst retaining a contemporary feel. The kitchen has extensive kitchen/cooking equipment for the amateur chef and the dining room has an extending dining table seating eight guests.

Situated in the heart of the village, the property is within a short walk of the village stores and a couple of pubs including a 16th-century thatched tavern reputed to be one of the oldest public house in Dorset.

Known as the Gateway to the Jurassic Coast, West Lulworth is situated within a scenic 10 minute stroll of the picturesque Lulworth Cove, a sheltered horse-shoe shaped natural harbour.

Historically, the cove was notorious as a popular landing point for smugglers looking to land their illicit booty. Today a fleet of fishing trawlers are based in the cove as well as pleasure boats offering scenic day voyages along the coast. Its sheltered position makes the cove particularly popular with beachgoers looking to sunbathe and swim.

Lulworth Cove is only half a mile from Durdle Door, an iconic natural limestone arch which has featured in several music videos, television productions and movies such as Nanny McPhee.

Weymouth and Portland, official Olympic 2012 sailing venues, are within a 20-mile drive.

We loved our stay at Hambury House the accommodation was perfect for our family. However the house was quite dirty in some areas in particular the bathrooms. The lounge was also very dusty and the furniture is way past its best. The kitchen surfaces were grubby and the dog bowl hadn’t even been emptied. The dishwasher was full of dirty crockery as well. I do have a couple of photos should you want them! The kitchen was very well equipped with crockery, saucepans etc and cutlery. It was a real shame that these few things let the property down as with a few tweaks it could be exceptional. Overall we had a wonderful time and despite the things I have mentioned we would go back.

We do believe, after many stays in self catering cottages, that it should be mandatory to upgrade property photos every two years at least. This would go someway to mitigate much deception. As for Hambury House...could be a really lovely 100% property but because it seems so unloved..just a 50% from us. The broken chair in the lounge needs to be tipped and just making the garden a pretty place to sit out in (not difficult, just a few planted pots and a fresh coat of creosote on the fence), would transform the experience. The kitchen is very well kitted out with everything a keen cook needs but take a pack of Ovenpride with you!Overall verdict... would be nice if the owners had more pride.

We had a lovely stay at Hambury House. Clean & well equipped though in need of a bit of sprucing up. Enclosed garden for the dog and car parking were great. Easy walk down to Lulworth Cove. Local shop and had a good meal at the The Castle inn. Lots of walks around the village, but unfortunately the walks above West Lulworth to the East were out of bounds all week due to army exercises. Fortunately our dog is not bothered by gunfire, but it could be a problem for some dogs.
