Situated high up on the Dorset Downs and close to the River Frome, surrounded by glorious countryside, The Shooting Lodge is a unique and special holiday home, and ideal for a large family or a groups of friends.
The setting was used by Thomas Hardy In his ‘The Three Strangers’, commanding gorgeous views of South Dorset Downs. Sitting on a flower and fruit filled coppice, this unique location is unmatched, and a stay at The Shooting Lodge will be special and memorable.
Perfect at all times of the year, as you enter the property, the ground floor accommodation opens out to include a large open-plan main sitting and dining area incorporating a fully-equipped Billiards Room. Guests are invited to relax on the comfortable sofas in front of an open fire, after enjoying a delicious meal at the grand dining table under the impressive 42-candle chandelier. The Billiard Room has its own open fireplace and is perfect for enjoying after-dinner entertainment in style, and you will also find a wonderful snug located within a unique turret. Also on the ground floor you will find the well-equipped kitchen which includes a large fridge/freezer and catering gas cooker, and is well set up for preparing special meals for celebratory occasions. Two of the four bedrooms, Stalkers and Beaters, can be found on the ground floor, each having their own en-suite shower rooms.
After taking the main stairs from the hallway, you will find the remaining two bedrooms of Honeysuckle with its en-suite shower room, and the Rose Room with its balcony overlooking the Billiards Room, and separate bathroom. A separate spiral staircase invites guests to climb up from the sitting area to the Tower Room, an ideal spot for reading a book or just gazing at the endless views.
When venturing outside, guests can admire the stunning views in all directions across The Wrackleford Estate, and are encouraged to explore the footpaths. A dining terrace with large table and chairs and a barbecue, offers the perfect setting for enjoying alfresco dining, and morning coffee can be taken sitting in the carved wood seating area at the front of the property.
The lodge sits in a private location but is just a mile away from the main road, and nearby village of Stratton. The county town of Dorchester is just a ten-minute drive away with its shops, restaurants, museums and cinemas, and the Jurassic Coast is within easy reach, making The Shooting Lodge perfect for a relaxing break or adventure filled holiday in Dorset.
