Escape to the idyllic village of Martinstown, less than 4 miles from Dorset’s county town, Dorchester, yet with a rural feel and peaceful ambience. At the heart of the village is St. Martins church, which dates back to Norman times and you’ll also find a pub, plus a deli and grocery store. This pretty spot is a great base for walking and is also ideally placed for touring. Within 17 miles are some of the county’s best-loved attractions including West Bay, Burton Bradstock, charming Abbotsbury with its sub-tropical gardens and swannery, the traditional seaside town of Weymouth, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Dorchester itself has a plethora of eateries, two cinemas and several museums to explore.
Take the central door into a welcoming dining hall, with space for boots and coats, as well as a generous table, perfect for leisurely family meals. To the left of this space and up a couple of steps is a galley-style kitchen, presented with care in a country style. Take one of the three doors to the garden, which lies to the front of the cottage. This idyllic spot is enclosed by a low stone wall topped with hazel hurdles and is furnished with a table and chairs so you can enjoy relaxed afternoons together or perhaps a sundowner.
