What our customers say about their holidays

  • James - Verified booking

I have used Dream Cottages for holidays since 2013, a number of times in the Brewers Quay area of Weymouth.

Once again they amazed me with the quality and cleanliness of the accommodation. The property, located in a gated Muse, is well appointed and has everything you need for a great self-catering holiday, or just to use it as a base whilst exploring the area. Covered parking opposite the property is an added bonus too. Pubs and restaurants are 5 minutes away in Hope Square and even more a minute or two further, to the harbour, or 10 -15 minutes to Weymouth town centre and the beautiful beach, (a smallish section by the Pavilion and amusements is dog friendly all year round). The property's master bedroom on its third level, has a very comfortable king-size double bed. There is plenty of storage space in the bedrooms and the master has the added bonus of an on-suite bathroom, albeit getting into the corner shower could be a bit of a tight squeeze for some! That said there is a further bathroom opposite bedroom 2 with a bath with hand shower over, and a cloakroom toilet downstairs. The kitchen as with the lounge and rest of the property is excellent. One slightly negative point is that in the description of the property, whilst it mentions a small patio to the front, it fails to mention there is no garden. As a dog owner, this could be a problem if you don't want to let your dog roam around the courtyard area. However 5 minutes and less than half a mile away along Newton's Road, overlooking Newton's Cove and Portland, is a lovely, safe, cliff-top open space to exercise your four legged companion. Alternatively, a lovely stroll can be had through Nothe Gardens, again a few minutes away. Whilst during my stay there was construction work taking place opposite Shire Horse Mews and also nearby, long term renovation work to the listed buildings of the old Devenish Brewery, neither caused an issue during my stay. Would I stay at this property again? Definitely yes, and use Dream Cottages for my next booking? Most definitely.

Tastefully furnished and almost everything you'd need for a home away from home.

Location was amazing being so close to the beach and loved the sea view from our bedroom. Great to have reserved, secure parking too. Was clean and different floors and the outside patio gave us space from each other which we needed for a longer stay! There was a nice welcome basket which included Dorset apple cake which was delicious! We holidayed for 2 weeks and things that you don't think of too much for a week started to niggle on our 2nd week. Beds were comfy but the duvets were 10 tog which were far too hot for summer and just using the cover was sometimes too cold, so summer duvets needed. The lounge TV was painful to use as as the remote slow and unresponsive, and it had limited functionality. When you've got younger kids, you will spend a fair amount of time in your holiday home and not having a decent TV with the ability to download streaming apps that we use like Disney was a faff. The upstairs Fire TV could do that but only if you have a prime account, which we do but it often just wouldn't work properly as Fire devices are prone to do. Also whilst we brought our own consumables like dishwasher tabs etc we hadn't expected to need bin liners for week 2. If you're staying for a week then none of this should bother much! A couple of extra notes to include that aren't written but good to know: The pebble beach has a steep bank to the shore line and a very short promenade so if you want to take a long walk, would advise wearing hiking boots. Nice cafe on the beach which sometimes hosts lovely evening pop up evening restaurants - check their Facebook page for more details.

We stayed at Kimberlin for a week over the Easter period, as a base for attending an event at the nearby Sailing Academy.

The location is perfect for that purpose - walking in about 20 minutes or a very quick drive. It's proximity to Chesil Beach is a great feature, and there are direct sea views from the top front bedroom. The house was spotlessly clean on arrival, and is well furnished with comfortable beds and sofas etc. We really enjoyed our stay, but there are a couple of points worth noting - these are factual rather than critical - there's nothing that the owners could do to address them! The development is a couple of years at most (probably less) and, as is the way the developers, they have crammed as many properties in a small space as they possibly could, so despite being a three bedroom property, the living areas (kitchen/living room) feel very cramped. We were two adults plus two late teenage children - and moving around the kitchen/dining table is "cosy" to say the least. There is only room for four chairs around the dining table (not sure what happens if 6 people book?), and you can't open the fridge/freezer doors fully without first closing the kitchen door. Over a week this did start to irritate. Likewise the on-site parking. The spaces are very tight for larger cars, and despite being clearly marked, guests/owners of other properties seemed to regard them as a free for all. We had to leave a note on a car to ask them to move so that we could use the allocated space for Kimberlin. There is parking right opposite development and at quiet times there are spaces - but in busy season that's not the case and we had to park some distance away.

    The location is beautiful.

The house is great apart from a few minor issues. The space was as advertised. Great to have three toilets and two showers. Kitchen was very well equipped. The whole house was in perfect condition. The central heating and hot water were very good and there was an endless supply of wood and kindling to add extra atmosphere. If the weather had been better we’d have made use of the large and beautiful garden. Parking was a bit tricky because it’s on a steep hill, but we got the knack. Not sure if the top drive is part of the house, so mainly used the one on same level as the house. My elderly parents feel the cold and have done mobility problems. They were able to get in and around the house with no difficulty and it was warm and comfortable for them. There was a very generous and tasty welcome pack. The only issues were: It was a squeeze for six adults in the lounge, not due to the size of the space but the choice of furniture: two overly large armchairs and a settee which was a squeeze for three medium adults. The downstairs toilet is prone to blocking: we didn’t put anything down it that you shouldn’t and there is a notice about the problem. So either solve the problem or tell guests they should only urinate in it.

This was our third visit to the cottage after a 11 year break.

The cottage had been redecorated and kitchen revamped since our last stay and it looked much better. The welcome box was lovely to find and a pint of milk which was great. The cottage is ideal for exploring the harbour, nothe fort and Newtons cove all within 5 mins or so walking. Our stay was comfortable but we did find the walls between the cottage not great soundproofing! A few negatives, pillows are in real need of being replaced on the main king size bed, totally worn out and pillow protectors on the twin beds were stained. A bread board is needed in the kitchen. Our big negative point is lack of recycling. We resulted in taking cans, plastic and glass to the recycling bins on the sea front. Local Asda had no banks for cans, glass or plastic. We've stayed in many cottages and recycling has always been part of the cottage's instructions. Apart from that we love Weymouth and would stay again at Footsteps.
