Clematis House is highly praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and welcoming atmosphere, with many guests eager to return. The property is well-equipped and conveniently located for exploring Dorset, though a few guests noted issues with maintenance and privacy. The garden is a highlight, offering a peaceful retreat.

Most guests found the property to be very clean and well-maintained, with only a couple of reviews mentioning issues with cleanliness that suggest room for improvement.

The location is generally appreciated for its convenience to Dorchester and nearby attractions, though one review expressed disappointment with the property's position and lack of privacy.

Guests consistently describe the property as comfortable, with special mentions of comfortable beds and a cosy atmosphere, indicating a high level of satisfaction in this area.

Facilities are well-regarded, but some guests noted the lack of instructions for appliances and issues with maintenance, such as the shower and extractor fan, which affects the score.

The welcome pack is frequently mentioned and appreciated, showing the owners' thoughtfulness. However, it should be noted that such gifts are a kind gesture and may not be guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Clematis House is to be found less than 4 miles north of the county town of Dorchester in the unspoilt county of Dorset. One of just two properties in the street, Clematis House provides accommodation for up to five people in the tree-lined village of Charlton Down. Charlton Down is the perfect location for access to beautiful walks in the West Dorset countryside and areas of outstanding natural beauty whilst being situated less than half an hours drive from the sandy beaches of Weymouth. It is also within easy reach of the World Heritage Jurassic Coast including Swanage, Corfe Castle, Lulworth, Abbotsbury and Lyme Regis. A file of over thirty walks and cycle rides in the area has been provided within the property but there are many more to be discovered. While the accommodation has been provided to cater for up to five adults in two double and one single room, it would equally well provide for children with a stairgate and highchair provided. Two designated off-road parking spaces are provided adjacent to the property's pretty courtyard garden in which you will find a garden table, chairs and parasol. This is a lovely spot to enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner or maybe just an aperitif before visiting one of the many pubs and restaurants within a short drive of Charlton Down. The lounge and garden room provide ample comfortable seating along with indoor dining facilities over-looking the garden. A TV (including Sky freeview), a DVD player and a hi-fi unit are provided for your enjoyment. The kitchen is well-equipped and includes a dish-washer and wine cooler to make life easy during your stay. A cloakroom completes the downstairs. Upstairs the bedrooms are comfortably furnished providing ample storage facilities and there is a bathroom with bath, shower and WC. Charlton Down shop and post-office is just a two minute walk from the house providing for your everyday grocery needs offering a wide range of products; they also bake bread every day including croissants, pain au chocolat and baguettes so get there early! There are various playgrounds for young children, the nearest just yards from the property while a zip-wire and other activities can be found in the field beyond the cricket ground. Dorchester has an extensive selection of museums relative to it’s size covering everything from teddybears, dinosaurs and Tutenkamun to military history, the justice system and the history of Dorset and it’s fascinating past. There are a host of restaurants to choose from in Brewery Square with many international cuisines to be found in the High Street and elsewhere. The surrounding villages provide a wonderful choice of pubs serving an extensive range of delightful food much of it sourced from local farms and fisherman. If you love walking, cycling, beach or history Clematis House is ideally situated for you.

Resting in the valley of the River Cerne is the community of Charminster. Enjoying quaint surroundings in Dorset's countryside and within easy reach of the region's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Charminster is a delightful location for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of life. Welcome pack to everything one would need in their own house was here a Clematis House. We thought great location for all our trip needs.

  • Margaret

The welcome tray was appreciated. It is nice that there are indoor pastimes e.g. chess, jigsaws and children's activities if needed, though the puzzles would need to be done on the dining table. The garden is colourful and quiet, a nice place to relax or eat on warm days. Having a shop so close is helpful for basic groceries. Clematis house is conveniently placed for Dorchester, the coast and other visitor attractions. We would recommend it.
