Guests say

Appletree Cottage in Lyme Regis is praised for its superb location, cosy atmosphere, and secure parking. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities and the private garden, though some noted it requires maintenance. The cottage's charm and the convenience of not needing a car are recurrent positive points.

The cottage generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness. However, a few guests mentioned a dog smell and a sofa needing a clean, slightly affecting the score.

The location is consistently lauded for its convenience and proximity to local amenities, making it a highly desirable feature of the cottage.

Guests find the cottage comfortable and cosy, suitable for couples and families with dogs, though some minor suggestions for additional cutlery and seating comfort were made.

Facilities are well-regarded, but several reviews point out issues with maintenance such as the garden's upkeep, non-working extractor fan, and washing machine, leading to a lower score.

While guests are generally happy with their stay, there is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts, thus a score cannot be provided.

Just one gripe: the under cabinet led lights in the kitchen (essential in a room with little natural light) did not work. We phoned to report the issue (which was difficult as the option to report such things was hidden under the option for accommodation owners, which we aren't) and was assured that someone would come out. They didnt so we called again and someone phoned back to assure us that someone would be out to fix the issue. Nobody came. Pre-merger with Sykes it was relatively easy to contact someone and report maintenance issues and someone would come out right away. Post- the Sykes merger - it feels like this side of things has been overlooked. If you promise that someone will come out - then they should. We might have waited in the cottage until someone came! Either that or just be honest: "Under cabinet lights are a bit low on our agenda right now so its unlikely we'll even tell Mr or Mrs Fixit this week, but thanks for letting us know". Hopefully the new owner of Appletree Cottage will fix them though, and perhaps give the lovely garden a bit of a trim as its looking a bit overgrown! Lastly the lounge smelled of dogs which is probably nice for dog owners but not for us! Otherwise a great relaxing stay in a lovely cottage.

The only downside is the lack of garden maintenance. For the last 3 years we have pointed out that the top part of the garden is a very unkempt, a top seating area is now unusable & covered in weeds - to the extent I had to buy some pruning shears and get rid of brambles which were very unpleasant. That aside it really is a lovely cottage and makes a comfortable base in Lyme.
