About this property

Sleeping up to six guests, Horsehill Cottage is located in its own magical woodland setting on the edge of the pretty village of Stoke Abbot near Beaminster, and it provides a comfortable and special base for your Dorset adventures.

Located just outside the picturesque village of Stoke Abbott, Horsehill Cottage enjoys a secluded setting off the main road network, and is ideal for families or couples looking for peace and quiet in a magical setting. There are 4 acres of private garden and nature reserve, and a further 3 acres of woodland, through which runs the Jubilee Trail footpath. The cottage has been carefully renovated using premium materials throughout such as oak, lime plaster, granite and limestone. A choice of wood burning stoves or underfloor heating means this cottage is cosy at any time of the year. A stream flows through the grounds where you will also find an oak bridge and a disused 19th Century Flax mill, and an abundance of flora and fauna.

The accommodation consists of an open plan sitting and dining room with wood burning stove, from where you step down to the kitchen and breakfast room with Aga range cooker. A utility room and cloakroom can be found to the rear of the cottage. On the first floor you will find the three bedrooms, a king-size with en-suite shower room, a second king-size bedroom and a twin bedroom, all with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. The family bathroom completes the accommodation on the first floor.

Though secluded the cottage is well-placed for enjoying beautiful countryside walks, and the village centre and pub are only a 10 minute stroll away. Nearby are the popular towns of Beaminster and Bridport, and there are several of Dorset's iconic iron age hill forts which invite you to explore. The Jurassic Coast is just a pleasant drive away, with West Bay, Burton Bradstock, Charmouth and Lyme Regis all within easy reach.

If you are looking for a unique and special retreat, sitting in a wonderfully peaceful setting, with space for all the family, then Horsehill Cottage is ideal.

Additional Information

Travel cot and high chair available on request.

The range cooker is an Aga, with seasoned firewood provided.

Two well behaved dogs are welcome (small additional charge).

Please be aware this is a rural, remote property with a small river running through and around the (partly enclosed) garden. Please supervise children at all times.

Thank you for a wonderful stay. The cottage was cosy and well equipped for a lovely but rainy week. Enjoyed by all adults, children and dog Dre.

Lovely cottage in a peaceful spot. We have really enjoyed exploring the wild gardens, cooking burgers over a camp fire and watching the bats emerge from their roost in the cottage roof! We have enjoyed exploring Bridport and feeding the swans at Abbotsbury. So much to do in this part of Dorset!
