About this property

Celebrate life's milestones and catch up with your family and friends at Upwey House. This big yet cosy self-catering holiday home is a Grade II listed Manor House in Upwey and is a short walk from two pubs and just a couple of miles from Weymouth and the stunning Dorset coast. It sits on 23 private acres of landscaped grounds and can sleep 18 people in nine, lovingly decorated bedrooms, with a capacity for up to 24 guests if required. Guests rave about the high standard of accommodation, fantastic location, incredible views, and the care and attention the owners give to the comfort of their guests. Dogs are very welcome.

Upwey House occupies one of the most gorgeous spots in all of Dorset. Situated on the crest of a hill above the historic village of Upwey, the large 17th manor house overlooks the rolling landscape of the Dorset aonb towards the spectacular West Dorset Heritage Coast. As lovely as they are, the views are eclipsed by the private grounds and interior of the Grade II listed holiday home. 23 private acres include a stream, woodland, lawns, walled-garden and a south-facing terrace for outdoor entertaining. An outdoor kitchen and bar was added in 2023 housing a top of the range gas BBQ and wood-fired oven. Equally impressive are the nine luxuriously appointed bedrooms, fantastic open-plan kitchen/dining room, and welcoming areas for socialising and relaxing. It comfortably sleeps 18 people with the potential to accommodate up to 24 guests using sofa beds and z-beds.

Upwey is a friendly village three miles from Weymouth's beaches and the historic county town of Dorchester. As well as excellent pubs, Upwey has a popular tearoom, a pretty 13th Century church, a pottery studio and an art gallery where local artists display works inspired by the landscape. Whether you're after a salty sea swim or a supermarket, you'll find it within easy reach. Weymouth has all of the traditional seaside amenities and entertainment loved by families for generations, superb sailing opportunities, and a buzzing nightlife. Dorchester is quieter and more refined than its seaside neighbour, boasting elegant architecture, a revitalised Brewery Quarter with restaurants, bars and cafes, shops and a museum. The surrounding area features miles of footpaths, including the South West Coast Path, and cycling routes to explore.

The location and layout of Upwey House will appeal to everyone. It regularly hosts family reunions and holidays, birthday celebrations, and weddings, with the service held either on Upwey House grounds or the village church of St Laurence. The owners have considered the needs of guests of all generations, and their care and attention to detail are reflected in the heartfelt compliments left by guests. You can't resist falling in love with Upwey House. A holiday here will remain in your heart forever.

Accommodation Comprises:

Upwey House has been a part of the landscape of Upwey since the 1600s. In the 1830s, the Gould family felt the beauty of their house deserved a superior location so they had it carefully moved and reconstructed, stone by stone, 100 metres away up the hill so as to benefit from the stunning views you see today. The 6,000 feet of accommodation is traditionally laid out with entertaining/communal spaces downstairs and most of the bedrooms on the first floor.

Ground Floor:

  • A covered porch opens into a welcoming hallway running through to the rear of the house.
  • Ample seating, multi-aspect windows and an open log fire make the drawing room a haven, day or night.
  • There is seating for up to 24 people in the elegant dining room, which is open to the kitchen for convenience and relaxed socialising.
  • Whilst it's possible to bring in external caterers, cooking in the kitchen of Upwey House is far from a chore thanks to features like the superb Lacanche contemporary range cooker and recently added outdoor kitchen with gas BBQ and wood-fired oven. Doors open from the kitchen onto the south-facing terrace and outdoor dining area.
  • Light the log burner and settle back with a book in the Snug, which also features a Smart TV with a DVD player.
  • Young guests will delight in the playroom furnished with their fun in mind including a range of games, toys and a football table. A door opens onto the rear terrace and a ping-pong table. For parties of more than 18 people, this room has a double sofa bed.
