About this property

Boasting a fabulous location in the countryside, on the outskirts of Portesham, Dorset is The Hideaway. The lodge is situated on a small farm and neighbours are mainly Fresian and Gurnesey cows. This wonderful holiday lodge benefits from a welcoming, open-plan living space completed by three well-appointed bedrooms, a private decking and garden space with stunning views across the countryside and an unbeatable location close to the seaside town of Weymouth; the perfect setting for families or friends looking to explore all Dorset has to offer. Step into the heart of your new home-from-home where you can unwind on the plush sofa in front of the Smart TV while the designated chef of the group gets acquainted with the fully-equipped kitchen. Sample their culinary delights at the dining table or step out onto the private decking to indulge in an alfresco affair, alternatively you can fire up the barbecue and enjoy this while admiring the breath-taking countryside views. When the evening draws to a close head back inside to wash off the day’s adventures in the shower room before sloping off to sleep in one of the three double bedrooms which provide flexible sleeping arrangements for your group of four! Find some local amenities in the heart of Portesham where you can visit the local farm shop to pick up your essentials or enjoy a well-earned break from the kitchen with food at The Kings Arms. The West Dorset Heritage Coast is easily accessible from your setting at The Hideaway, take a short drive and reach the iconic, stoney shores of Chesil Beach where you can enjoy leisurely strolls in the sea air while marvelling at the sea views. Stop off in the seaside town of Weymouth which houses a myriad of fun-filled attractions, tour Lodmoor Country Park, learn about the ocean at the SEA LIFE centre, amble through the waterside Nothe Gardens and visit Nothe Fort or spend sunny days whiling away the day on the glorious, golden shores of Weymouth Beach. Explore all the Jurassic Coast has to offer from The Hideaway!

Portesham is a picturesque village in West Dorset, not far from the towns of Weymouth, Dorchester, and Bridport. It is also in close proximity to the stunning Jurassic Coast, which is a World Heritage site, as well as the South West Coastal Path and the South Dorset Ridgeway, both of which run through areas of outstanding natural beauty. The beautiful countryside all around the village provides easy access to public trails like the South West Coastal Path. The village has both a farm store and a great pub with excellent food and real ales. This picturesque area makes for a wonderful touring base, as the likes of Abbotsbury Swannery and Tropical Gardens are only a short drive away. The views of Chesil Beach from St. Catherine's Chapel are spectacular. Only 8 miles away is the thriving market town of Dorchester, home to numerous restaurants, galleries, and other cultural attractions. Weymouth, a popular family-friendly seaside resort, and the Jurassic coast are close by, as is Portland, the dramatic setting for the Olympic sailing competition in 2012. It's a fantastic holiday resort all year round thanks to its proximity to the popular tourist destinations of Bournemouth and Poole, both of which can be reached in under an hour.

Off the beaten track, which we wanted as in the middle of the countryside. Everything in place for your stay. Greeted by owner, and owner gave us his mobile number, for if we needed to make contact. Therefore, some available if required. Helpful and friendly owners, we would definitely stay again in the future. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The directions to find this property were useless. It is described as a lodge on a farm but is really a static caravan. It stood on gravel at the end of a long drive, through a caravan & motorhome park (no mention of this from Sykes). We arrived in a storm to find that nothing was provided, not even milk to make a cup of tea. The owners had assumed that we only wanted to use one bedroom & only one bed was made up. The owner rectified this. The gas cooker ignition did not work so we were supplied with a lighter. I didn't want to risk a naked flame on an unfamiliar gas oven so found instructions for the particular model on line. On the positive side it was clean (apart from heavily soiled and stained lounge carpets) and the lounge furniture and beds were quite comfortable & the bedding was clean. The kitchen was reasonably equipped. There were no instructions as to how to use anything in the accommodation; there was no information about the local area and what to do there. The living area was adequate & comfortable. The bedrooms were extremely difficult to use. Large double beds were stuffed into very small spaces with no room at all to move. Getting out of bed in the dark with only inches of space was dangerous & resulted in several bangs and bruises. They were very claustrophobic. The wardrobe sliding door did not close & the shower cubicle door was very difficult to use. The bathroom was tiny with very little space to move. We did not approach the owner. The whole place felt unfriendly with notices telling people not to go to the farmhouse but to text to make contact. I texted to tell her we were leaving early - it took her 15 hours to respond. I would not recommend this property, especially to older people. It was a very disappointing holiday and we returned home early. Certainly not what I have come to expect from Sykes over the years.

Paula was a lovely host and showed us everything on arrival. We had loads of space and the facilities were excellent. The kitchen was well equipped, towels soft and beds and bed linen very comfortable. The chickens and ducks were a great alternative to watching the TV.
