Located on the island of South Walls, one of the Orkney Islands off the northern coast of Scotland is the important coastal settlement of Longhope. Renowned for its rich maritime history dating back to the Napoleonic wars, the island South Walls is connected to Hoy by the Ayre causeway making it the second largest island in the Orkney Archipelago. Originating directly from the Old Norse word for ‘long bay’, Longhope’s main draw is its tranquil surroundings. Set in its own peaceful seclusion; you can tour the island and visit the impressively restored lifeboat museum that offers rich history on WWI and wwii or relish a hearty meal and cold beverage at one of several pubs on offer. Well-positioned to visit Hoy, Lyness and Rackwick Beach, one of the most remote and beautiful beaches to be found in Orkney, Longhope is an incredible location that is sure to stay with you long after you leave.

Sarah and Chris most welcoming and the house was great for 2 couples and a dog. The fixtures and fittings are of good quality, comfy beds, good towels and modern kitchen/bathrooms. The only small issue was the lack of storage in the bedrooms, a chest of drawers would easily solve this. We had great weather and thoroughly enjoyed sitting out with a glass of wine after a day exploring. Thanks again Sarah and Chris for making us feel so welcome.

Would highly recommend for anyone exploring the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. The house is equipped with everything you need and everything is to a high standard, plus our lovely host Sarah provided a delightful welcome pack. Also very good communication from our host. The views from every window are fantastic, plus the little enclosed garden with the patio is private and perfect for relaxing on a warm evening.

Very quiet despite being near a main road. The living room/kitchen upstairs is spacious with wonderful views. Great for exploring Forest of Dean and the Wye valley. Highly recommended and would stay there again.
