Claysun House is a well-equipped, spacious property with a good-sized garden, ideal for family gatherings. It's close to forest walks and has a welcoming pub nearby. Guests appreciate the extra touches like a welcome hamper and dog biscuits. Some concerns were raised about cleanliness in one bathroom and neighbourly issues regarding a dog, but overall, the house is seen as a comfortable and convenient base for exploring the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley.
The property was generally clean, but there was an issue with mould in the shower of the master bedroom. A cleaner addressed it, and it was scheduled for further maintenance after the guests' departure.
The location is appreciated for its proximity to forest walks, a very good pub, and the Forest of Dean. However, one review mentioned it felt on the edge rather than inside the forest.
The property offers plenty of space and is considered a home from home, but some guests found the sofas uncomfortable and the conservatory area lacking sufficient seating for large groups.
The house is well-stocked with board games and books, and the kitchen has plenty of equipment. However, there were several items in need of repair and updating, and the layout of the kitchen and automatic lights were points of contention for some guests.
Guests were delighted with thoughtful touches such as a welcome hamper and dog biscuits. While these gifts are greatly appreciated, they are a gracious extra and may not be a standard offering for every stay.
A magnificent property, great for friends and family alike. Surrounded by the great outdoors, Symonds Yat is nearby for kayaking and rock climbing..

Claysun was an extremely well equipped house with plenty of space for everyone in our group including the dog. A real home from home which was perfect for our family gathering. Good size garden to play games outside in the sun and rain! Close to forest walks and a very good pub almost on the doorstep. Plenty of board games and books, a lovely welcome hamper and a jar full of dog biscuits were just a few of the appreciated extras.

Check in was fine, the next door neighbour met us at the house. The neighbours were friendly and helpful throughout our stay.Nice welcome hamper. The house is lovely, well appointed and spacious with a lovely garden. The house was generally clean to a high level, although the shower in the master bedroom was covered in thick black mould all over the tiles grout and sealant. A cleaner came and admitted it was unacceptable, they cleaned it as best they could, but it was going to be resealed etc after we left. The pub The Miners Arms was very handy, served great food.

This is our second stay at Claysun house and whilst the space it provided suited our needs and the location couldn’t be better for exploring the Forest of Dean, there were several things that have led to only leaving a 3 star review. Firstly, the neighbour has a vicious dog who attacked our dog and left a big chunk out of her nose. There is only a wire fence between the gardens and whilst our dog did have her nose though the fence, we were calling to get her away, in the split second she was there we would not expect her to be attacked and to make matters worse there was no apology from the neighbour and they did not check that our dog was OK. In fact they just shrugged their shoulders and said ‘well your dog had her nose through the fence’, I dread to think what would have happened if it was one of the children with their hands through the fence! This is the same neighbour that does the welcome, he was also rude to my wife and child on arrival. He warned us that his dog did not like other dogs, but barking at a dog and attacking another dog are two very different things. Do not book this property if you have a dog. There is no privacy between this property and the neighbours so we had to spend the rest of the week not really using the garden for fear that our dog would be further attacked and we didn’t really want to see people who have been rude to us. Also, there are several things that were in need of repairing and updating from our last stay, these were all still in the same condition this year. The downstairs snug sofas are very uncomfortable and dirty. There is not enough space for a large family to sit in the conservatory area so two people had to sit at the small table during the evening for us to all be together. The automatic lights on the stairs, whilst are good for safety, have no way of turning off and are triggered just by sitting in the middle floor living room, as the children were trying to sleep and the light coming on every time someone moved in the living room we couldn’t use this space either. Whilst the kitchen is well stocked with equipment there is no space to store any food. We probably could have got past these minor irritations to book again as it is the perfect size and location for our annual trip to the Forest of Dean, but because of the neighbour and their dog we will not be booking again.
