The Forest of Dean is just a short drive away and offers walking and cycling trails, the famous Sculpture Trail at Beechenhurst, and popular spots like Symonds Yat Rock, Puzzlewood and Clearwell Caves. For the more adventurous, there’s mountain biking at the Forest of Dean Cycle Centre or treetop fun at Go Ape. Just outside the village, May Hill offers spectacular views across the Severn Vale, with a distinctive tree-topped summit that makes it a local landmark.
Gloucester is within easy reach and well worth a visit, home to its magnificent cathedral featured in the Harry Potter films, alongside Gloucester Docks and Quays for shopping, dining and museums. Harts Barn Craft Centre nearby offers artisan shopping, a cookery school and a tearoom, while the May Hill Brewery provides a chance to sample local ales. The Cotswolds lie to the east, with pretty villages and market towns to explore, and the Herefordshire Black and White Trail winds through picturesque half-timbered villages to the west. The Malvern Hills are also easily accessible and offer excellent walking routes with stunning scenery.
